Summer in Mississippi is tough enough on its own, but when hormones are completely out of balance, the heat can make the season feel entirely unmanageable.

It is incredibly common for women to experience intense hot flashes that feel like a furnace turned on inside the chest, or to deal with sleep issues the moment the outdoor temperatures rise. Too often, people end up dealing with a sudden wave of irritability or stubborn weight changes that make no sense, assuming it is just daily stress or a normal part of getting older. The truth is that these changes are driven by a sharp decline in baseline estrogen levels rather than personal weakness.

Sara Cooley, FNP-C, talks to women about hormone replacement therapy and wellness every single week in a straightforward, comfortable space.

Instead of dealing with confusing medical terms, patients get a clear explanation of exactly what is happening inside their bodies and what realistic steps can be taken to find relief. Proper hormone replacement management can reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes by up to 90 percent, helping women reclaim their deep sleep, clear the brain fog, and finally feel like themselves again. Every treatment plan is custom-built around a patient's exact lifestyle and precise laboratory profiles.

No one has to spend the summer pushing through intense physical discomfort or trying to navigate difficult hormonal transitions entirely on their own.

"How many of these sound familiar? Drop your number in the comments."

It is so easy to look at things like being tired all the time, constantly reaching for a glass of water, or having a little bit of blurry vision and treat them like separate, minor annoyances. Most of us just assume we are working too hard, running low on sleep, or dealing with the natural changes of getting older. But the truth is, the body is actually pretty good at dropping quiet hints when blood sugar levels are running out of balance.

Those random daily symptoms are usually connected to the exact same issue. When your system struggles to process sugar correctly, it causes a slow drain on your body. It zaps your everyday energy, plays tricks on your vision, slows down how fast minor cuts heal, and can even cause a strange tingling feeling in your hands and feet. Checking off even two items on this list is a strong sign that it is time to actually check your numbers.

Braxton Meeks, FNP-C takes a completely different approach to diabetes care and blood sugar health.

Instead of just handing over a standard prescription refill and sending you on your way, Braxton looks at your entire lifestyle to find out what is actually going on beneath the surface. He helps you understand your patterns, adjust your daily habits, and build a straightforward, realistic plan to get your numbers stable and your energy back.

Meet Makayla Winslow, Nurse Assistant at Segars Clinic! 👋

Makayla has been an essential part of the clinic family for three years. She handles a wide variety of direct patient care around the office, specializing in patient intake, laboratory blood work, X-rays, and supporting our medical aesthetic treatments.

Her path to healthcare began with a deep desire to provide comfort, care, and genuine support to patients during their most vulnerable times. If you ask her what she wishes patients knew about her role, she will tell you that her care does not stop when she clocks out for the day. She truly thinks about and prays for her patients long after she goes home.

Building those deep relationships and earning the true trust of the people she treats is her absolute favorite part of working at the clinic. She works hard to ensure that no one ever feels like just a number on a chart.

When she is not at the office, Makayla is completely focused on her family, spending her time with her three-year-old son who absolutely loves to fish and spend time out on the water. If she is picking out a favorite meal nearby, she always leans toward local Mexican restaurants, and her favorite part about living in Northeast Mississippi is that close-knit, small-town feel.

Makayla describes the clinic in three words: Family. Funny. Caring. The entire team is incredibly blessed to have her compassionate spirit on the front lines of patient care every single day.

Most people would never dream of driving their truck for months with a flashing check engine light glowing on the dashboard. They know that ignoring a small warning signal is a guaranteed way to end up stranded on the side of the road with a massive repair bill.

As it turns out, the human body drops the exact same kinds of diagnostic warning signs.Persistent pain that will not quit, unmanaged blood sugar shifts, bottomless fatigue, and feeling stiff or sore during daily routines are not just a mandatory part of getting older. Those symptoms function exactly like early warning lights on a dashboard. They are active signals from the body indicating that an underlying issue requires professional attention before a major breakdown happens.

Braxton addresses these biological warning signs every single week at Segars Clinic. Instead of waiting for a health crisis to force a doctor visit, the team focuses heavily on proactive, preventative care.

Braxton works closely with patients to decode those lingering symptoms, running targeted metabolic screenings and joint assessments to fix small issues right at the root. The clinic provides advanced chronic care and pain management with a small-town, neighborly approach. There is no reason to white-knuckle through chronic discomfort or wait for a complete physical breakdown to get a real plan.

"I feel completely fine."

That is the standard answer most men give when asked the last time they scheduled a comprehensive physical. Statistically, women are twice as likely as men to visit the doctor for regular checkups, meaning thousands of men skip routine wellness exams and ignore early symptoms entirely. True strength is not about staying silent, toughing it out, or pushing a baseline checkup down the road until a minor issue turns into a major disruption.

During Men's Health Week, Segars Clinic is spotlighting the health issues men actually deal with pain, blood sugar, weight, and energy and the real solutions available.

Here is what Braxton actually works on with his patients every week:
🔹 Blood sugar and metabolic screening. Catching insulin resistance and unexpected weight shifts before they spiral.
🔹 Trigger point and joint injections. Resolving the chronic muscle and structural pain that won't quit on its own.
🔹 Hormone and energy testing. Finding out why the daily drive and focus aren't what they used to be.

Scheduling a wellness screening with Braxton Meeks, FNP-C, does not require any external referral. Taking charge of your numbers is about protecting your future and staying strong for the people who care about you.

"I am doing everything right. Eating clean, hitting the gym, drinking water, and the scale will not budge. What am I doing wrong?"

That is easily one of the most exhausting, frustrating things patients share during their visits. It feels completely defeating to spend weeks skipping your favorite foods and tracking every single calorie, only to step on the scale and see the exact same number staring back at you. When that happens, most people blame themselves, assuming they just lack willpower or need to try harder.

But the truth is, a stubborn plateau is rarely a matter of willpower. Usually, the body is dealing with a hidden issue that has the metabolic brakes slammed on.

When things like silent insulin resistance, thyroid shifts, or hormone imbalances are running the show behind the scenes, the body gets stuck in storage mode. It chemically holds onto energy instead of burning it, no matter how hard someone works out. Trying to force weight loss while those levels are out of whack is an uphill battle that just leads to burnout.

Braxton Meeks, FNP-C, approaches weight management differently by looking at what is happening inside the body.Instead of handing out a generic menu plan or telling someone to just eat less, Braxton digs into comprehensive lab work to find out exactly where the system is stuck. He looks at blood sugar patterns, hormone levels, and metabolic pacing to figure out the real issue. From there, he builds a practical, personalized medical plan to help reset those levels, fix insulin sensitivity, and get the body working with you instead of against you.

There is no reason to stay stuck in a frustrating cycle of guessing or struggle with a stubborn plateau. Reach out to schedule an evaluation so you can finally find real answers and get your energy back on track.

Some people choose to enter the medical field out of a deep personal calling, and Ceely Moore is absolutely one of them.

Ceely is a Nurse Assistant who has been a vital part of the team for a little over a year. She brings a wonderful level of versatility to the clinic, handling everything from patient intake and taking vitals to working at the front desk with scheduling and patient phone calls.

Her path to healthcare began when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. While stepping up to take care of her mom, Ceely learned firsthand just how important a role healthcare professionals play during difficult family moments. That experience gave her a true heart for caregiving, and she brings that same dedication to every single person she treats.

What she loves most about her role is simply being able to care for patients and help them on their path to wellness. She works hard behind the scenes and in the exam rooms to make sure everyone who walks through the door is fully cared for.

When she is off the clock, Ceely is completely focused on her family, spending her time with her three-year-old and her puppy. If she is heading out for a favorite meal nearby, she loves going to Tokyo in Corinth. For her, the absolute best part about living in this area is the family-oriented, small-town feel.

Ceely describes the clinic experience in three words: Caring. Patient-centered. Continuous. The team is incredibly proud to have her heart and dedication on the front lines every day.

Over 40 million Americans are living with diabetes right now, and more than 1 in 4 of them have no idea they have it. That is a massive portion of the population, meaning it could easily be a neighbor, a coworker, or a family member.

Unmanaged blood sugar rarely go unnoticed forever. While it might start out silently, it eventually shows up through everyday symptoms that are easy to brush off as just stress or getting older. Constant fatigue that sleep will not fix, unexpected changes in weight, blurry vision, nerve pain, and minor cuts or wounds that take a long time to heal are all common signs that the body is struggling to manage its glucose levels.

The trickiest part about blood sugar issues is that many people feel perfectly fine on the outside until the underlying damage catches up with them.

Braxton Meeks, FNP-C, specializes in advanced diabetes management, working closely with patients to look at the whole picture rather than just writing a standard prescription refill. He helps patients understand their numbers, adjust their daily habits, and build a practical tailored plan.

That stubborn, tight knot in the shoulder or upper back usually has a specific medical name: a trigger point.

When a muscle group stays constantly locked or overworked, it forms a tight band of tissue that can cause a dull, radiating ache through the entire area. Too often, people try to handle these painful spots with endless stretching or daily doses of over-the-counter anti-inflammatories. While those methods might take the edge off for an hour or two, they never actually force the underlying knot to release.

That is why Braxton Meeks, FNP-C, utilizes targeted trigger point injections right here at The Segars Clinic.

The process is straightforward and takes only a few minutes during a standard office visit. Braxton locates the exact center of the muscle tension and places a localized treatment directly into the locked fibers. This immediately helps the tight band of muscle relax, shuts down the local inflammation, and restores normal blood flow to the tissue. Most patients experience a significant wave of relief and improved movement within 24 to 48 hours.

There is no reason to white-knuckle your way through constant muscle tension or rely on heavy daily medications just to get through the workday.

If you or someone you know is dealing with a stubborn spot that will not unlock, we encourage you to call for in office visit for treatment.
