🍓🥬 At Smarch Chiropractic & Health Center, we want you to know more about the food you bring home to your family!
Buying organic can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re watching your grocery budget. Knowing where to start can help. 🛒🌱
Each year, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzes government testing data to identify conventionally grown fruits and vegetables with higher pesticide residues. Residues can remain even after washing or peeling, as the produce would typically be prepared at home.
EWG’s 2026 Dirty Dozen can help you prioritize buying organic if you want to reduce pesticide exposure:
🥬 Spinach
🥬 Kale, collard and mustard greens
🍓 Strawberries
🍇 Grapes
🍑 Nectarines
🍑 Peaches
🍒 Cherries
🍎 Apples
🫐 Blackberries
🍐 Pears
🥔 Potatoes
🫐 Blueberries
🔎 Check that little produce sticker!
➡️ 4 digits, usually starting with 3 or 4: Conventionally grown.
➡️ 5 digits starting with 9: Organically grown.
🍌 A banana labeled 4011 is conventional. A banana labeled 94011 is organic. You can also look for the USDA Organic seal on packaging.
💧 Remember, organic doesn’t mean pesticide-free. Wash both organic and conventional produce under running water before preparing or eating.
You don’t have to change your entire grocery cart overnight. Learning what labels mean can help you make informed choices for your family. 💚
