💙💚🧡 June is National Dysphagia Awareness Month 💙💚🧡

Did you know that swallowing is one of the most complex functions our bodies perform? It involves the coordinated work of muscles and nerves from the mouth to the stomach—and most of us do it hundreds of times each day without even thinking about it.

For individuals living with dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), eating, drinking, and even taking medications can be challenging and sometimes unsafe. Dysphagia can affect people of all ages and may occur as a result of stroke, neurological conditions, cancer treatment, head and neck disorders, or developmental differences.

Speech-Language Pathologists play a vital role in evaluating and treating swallowing disorders, helping patients improve safety, nutrition, hydration, and quality of life.

This month, we join others across the country in raising awareness about dysphagia and the importance of early identification and intervention.

We had an incredible time hosting the Beckman Oral Motor Conference right here at our facility! It was an inspiring few days filled with hands-on learning, collaboration, and deepening our understanding of evidence-based oral motor assessment and intervention. We're so grateful to all the clinicians who joined us and shared in the passion for improving outcomes for the patients and families we serve.

Even more fitting-this comes at the start of May, which is Better Speech and Hearing Month! 👂🗣️

This month is all about raising awareness of communication and swallowing disorders and celebrating the vital work of speech-language pathologists and audiologists. Opportunities like this conference remind us how important it is to continue learning, growing, and advocating for our patients every day.

Here's to advancing our skills, supporting one another, and making a difference-this month and all year long.
