BFA provides assistance with various items, from transportation to anti-scarring garments – all free of charge. But they need your support to provide that support. SFMO investigators believe an accidental fire that started in the attic/roof space of a single-story home is to blame for the death of 35-year-old Monique Creshaun Gardener on County Road 369 in Lafayette County. The fire was reported on Sunday, August 9, 2026, around 4:30 a.m.

There have been 53 fire deaths so far in 2026. In at least 34 of those deaths, there were no working smoke alarms. https://conta.cc/45lW7g6

Today, on Purple Heart Day, we honor the extraordinary men and women who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

We recognize the bravery shown in service and the determination it takes to heal. Recovery from burns, complex wounds, traumatic injuries, and scars takes time and requires strength, resilience, and compassionate, specialized care.

To every Purple Heart recipient and their family, thank you for your sacrifice, your resilience, and your service. We are honored to stand beside you on the road to recovery. 💜

On National Wiggle Your Toes Day, take time to care for the tips of your tootsies. This is especially important if you are at risk or have diabetes.

If your feet are healthy, take a walk on grass or dip them in some water. If your toes need a little extra attention, schedule a pedicure and foot massage. Or treat your toes to a new pair of shoes!

If your feet and toes are at risk for nerve and other damage from diabetes, taking care of them includes proper washing, regular check-ups and extra caution when walking to not bump into things that could break the skin or bones. Of course, if you have a toe issue, call our wound experts!

Thursday’s ABLS course checked a lot of boxes for MBHRC. Kelley Farner proctored her first students as a National Faculty Member, and she checked off two new ABLS instructors. Among a group of medical students from Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine taking ABLS was Lauren Sutton, the daughter of MBHRC’s Burn Service Director Robert Sutton, who just began clinical rotations at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center with plans to be a burn and plastic surgeon. She started as a candy striper ten years ago at the old burn center, and on her final day there she helped Dr. Culnan replant a thumb. We can’t wait for Dr. Sutton to start healing patients! Congratulations to the over 20 individuals who became ABLS certified today, including Gluckstadt Fire Department Division Chief Dustin Perry.

Learn about burns with MBHRC! We are offering a one-day, eight-hour Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) course on Thursday, July 30, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. ABLS targets the first 24 hours of care following a burn injury, covering topics ranging from assessment to stabilization to transfer preparation. The course is free for those who register, and we’ll be providing lunch. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and participants are asked to sign up for the class via email at [email protected].
