Sanford Jackson Medical Center partnered with Jackson County Central School and Huskies Fighting Cancer to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raise awareness throughout the community. Students wore pink to show support for those affected by breast cancer.

Before the varsity volleyball game, the Sanford team hosted a tailgate meal that brought community members together to honor survivors, remember loved ones and highlight the importance of early detection and prevention.

Jaime Franken’s mother and grandmother both passed away from cancer before their 40th birthdays. As a result, she was afraid of going to the doctor.

But when she felt a lump in her breast, her sisters urged to get it checked out.

The journey that unfolded revealed a lot about her family’s history and helped set them on a new path for the future.

Sanford Helps, a website created to help connect Sanford Health patients to social care community resources – such as financial assistance, food pantries, housing, medical care, and other free or reduced-cost help – helps fills patient needs where they live.

"Sanford Helps provides a consistent way across our footprint for staff to identify and connect patients to local and national resources, as well as an anonymous way for patients and community members to seek and find services," said Erica DeBoer, chief nursing officer at Sanford Heath.

Congratulations to Baylee Pietrowski of Jackson County Central High School, recipient of a $2,000 Sanford Health Network Scholarship. Baylee will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Northern Iowa this fall, where she looks forward to supporting patients both physically and emotionally.
