Deacon Calvin Robinson III was born on Sept. 19, 1959, in the Robinson Quarters of the Mt. Sinai community in Jackson, to the late Calvin Robinson Jr. and the late Roberta Thompson Robinson. On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, he peacefully transitioned from his earthly life at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and community.
From an early age, Calvin was taught the love of God and the importance of faith while being raised spiritually in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. His love for the Lord became the foundation upon which he lived his life. He openly and joyfully expressed his faith, encouraging others through both his words and his actions.
Calvin received his formal education through the Clarke County School System, after which he relocated to Decatur, Ga.
Throughout his life, he was affectionately known by many nicknames, including Bookie, Snoot, Baby Boy, Dirty Slim and Bama. Each name reflected the warmth of his personality and the special relationships he built with family and friends over the years.
Calvin discovered his true vocational calling in the construction industry as a skilled brick mason (Masonry). He devoted many years to this craft, taking great pride in building structures that would serve and strengthen the community for generations to come. Even as his health began to decline, he continued accepting smaller masonry projects because of his passion for the work. Creating something lasting with his own hands brought him immense joy and fulfillment, and his craftsmanship stands as a testament to his perseverance and dedication.
Through his steadfast faith, humble service, skilled hands, and generous heart, Deacon Calvin Robinson III built more than walls and foundations—he built relationships, strengthened his community, and left an enduring example of integrity, perseverance, and devotion to God.
Preceding Calvin in death were his beloved parents, Deacon Calvin Robinson Jr. and Deaconess Roberta Thompson Robinson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, James Edward Robinson, Jessie Ray Robinson, George Jerome Robinson and Michael Robinson; and two nephews, Thearon Lee Robinson and Allen Dion Robinson.
Leaving to cherish his precious memory are his eight loving siblings, Gladys Robinson, Eddie Robinson, Henry Robinson (Irma), Lesia Robinson Tucker, Pastor Belinda Robinson Kelley (Pastor Marcus), Rhonda Yvette Robinson, Evangelist Shonda Robinson Bass and Dr. Dangale Robinson Meda (Dr. Lamar); former sister-in-law, Sandra Y. Hill; and a host of beloved and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted and cherished friends.
Public viewing will be Friday, June 19, from 2 until 6 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson, AL. A celebration of life home going service will be Saturday, June 20, 11 a.m., at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 665 Evergreen Road, Jackson. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Gwendolyn “Carol” Seals Headley, 77, of McIntosh, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026. Gwen, or Carol as she was affectionately known by family, was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life was anchored in faith, strength, and unwavering love. A true reminder that God still performs miracles, she courageously battled breast cancer and used life’s trials to encourage others. Her life was a testament to faith, resilience, and perseverance.

Carol was born in Mobile, Alabama, and relocated to Niagara Falls, New York, during the Great Migration of the 1950s as a child. She always had a radiant spirit. While attending Niagara Falls High School, she won a baking contest and earned a trip to New York City. In 1966, she spent the summer studying French and math at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She also traveled to England, Switzerland, and Italy. Carol spent much of her career at the Bank of New York, KeyBank, and HSBC, eventually achieving the title of branch manager. Later in her career, she held various customer service positions before retiring in 2017 and moving back to her beloved hometown of McIntosh, Alabama.

Carol loved sports and was an enthusiastic fan of football, basketball, and tennis. She faithfully supported Buffalo teams through every era—from the “Electric Company” to the Super Bowl years to the Josh Allen era, which she believed would return the Bills to the Super Bowl. She also enjoyed watching Michael Jordan, admiring his calm intensity and determination to win championships. Seeing Venus and Serena Williams compete and win on the Tennis Channel brought her great joy. She inherited her love of sports from her mother and passed it on to her two sons. Carol was also known for her signature dishes, including Turkey à la King and Ambrosia.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hewer K. Seals, and her mother, Rosalie J. Tabb-Seals.

Gwendolyn leaves behind her cherished sons, Jelani (Carolyn) of Marietta, Georgia, and Omari (Nakita) of The Bahamas; her beloved grandchildren, Ayden, Caleb, and Cai Headley; her sisters, Shirley-Ann Brunson, Rosemary Feagin, and Pamela Green (Larry) of McIntosh, Alabama; as well as many adored cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Union Baptist Church 3512 Richard Seals Rd. in McIntosh, AL 36553.

Debra Ann Monigan Williams, a native of the Paul Bayou community and a resident of Thomasville departed this life on May 30, 2026.

Public viewing will be Friday, June 5, from 12-noon until 5 p.m., at Jackson Memoria Funeral Home, 203 E. Ross Street, Jackson.
Celebration of life will be Saturday, June 6, with viewing from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service, at New Beginning Apostolic Church, 4260 U.S. Hwy 43 N., McIntosh.
Final resting place will be St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in McIntosh.

Mary Louise Powell was born December 2, 1936, to the late Mose and Savannah Pogue. Mary was affectionately known as “Moot”. She completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Jackson Healthcare Facility in Jackson, AL.

She was a native of the Cortelyou Community of Wagarville, AL. She was united in marriage to the late Mack Powell, and were blessed with five children.

To know Mary was to know love. She was a woman whose kindness and warmth touched everyone blessed to know her. Mary was truly one of the most kindhearted people you could ever meet. She gave from the heart without hesitation, always putting others before herself and making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and cared for.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Mary had a special way of keeping up with everyone and everything — she always seemed to have the “local news” before it ever made the newspaper. Her conversations, laughter, and stories filled every room with comfort and joy.

Mary also enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life sweet. She loved a good plate of collard greens and cornbread, pig feet, hog head cheese, and sweet tea with lemon flavor close by. She especially loved gospel music, which brought peace to her heart and joy to her spirit.

Mary’s love, generosity, and unforgettable presence will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, laughter, and unconditional love that will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Savannah Pogue; her husband, Mack Powell; siblings: Betty Reed, Doris Robinson, Mose Pogue, Jr., and Julia Pogue.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories, her five children: Donnie (Hubertha) Powell of Wagarville, AL, Daryl (Thelma) Powell of McIntosh, AL, Marilyn Powell of Wagarville, AL, Bettie (Ken) Martinear of DeRidder, LA, and Christy (John) Perine of Cartersville, GA; nine grandchildren: Sharae Powell, Beverly Powell, Travis Powell, Jarus Powell, Coretta “Shay” Powell, Shanease “Nease” Powell, RJ Gladney, Jr., Kennedi Martinear, and Jaylen Powell; five great-grands: Jonte’ Peoples, Kayden Franks, Harmonie Powell, Layton Powell, and Landyn McReynolds; two sisters: Thelma Donald, and Henrietta Howell; two brothers: Richard (Birdie) Pogue, and Frankie Pogue; four sisters-in-law: Rosetta Powell, Effie (Willie) Roberts, Jeanette Powell, and Gwen Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mary Frances Jackson Sims, better known to family and friends as “Mae Frances,” was a resident of the Sunflower Community, was born September 20, 1936 to the late Travis and Frances Jackson in Rockville, AL. She exchanged her life for eternal joy on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 while at University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Mary joined Little Sunflower Baptist Church #3 at an early age, where she served faithfully and held the office of Church Secretary for many years.

Mary was employed with Vanity Fair. After serving over forty years of dedicated service she retired.

Mary was a very outspoken person who loved her children and family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her most loved sport was fishing and baseball, which she loved to do. Her favorite Major League Baseball team was the “Atlanta Braves”. She loved them all dearly, but could watch the Braves daily and fish daily.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Ben Sims; her parents, Travis and Frances Jackson; daughter, Mary J. Kelly; granddaughter, Tamisha Johnson; brother, Roosevelt Jackson; and sister, Willie Mae Jackson.

Remaining to cherish her fond memories are her children: Betty Sims, Sharon (Cliff) Brown, Regina (Al) Portis and Angela Sims all of Sunflower, AL, Ben (Angela) Sims Jr. of Montgomery, AL, David (Sheena) Sims of Thomasville, AL and Dexter Sims of Sunflower, AL; brother, Ossie Jackson of Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Sims; 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 43 great-great-grandchildren; godson, Brayden Brown; bonus daughter, Tee Harris; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; including special friends: Vera Chapman, Roxey James, Carolyn Scott, Mary Jo Starling, and Liz Burrell; special cousin, Annie Pearl Brown; and bonus sons: David Turner, Andy Parnell and Bruce Parnell; and two neighborhood sons: Marvin Lewis Davidson, Sr. and Frank Webb, Jr.

Percy Lee Dickinson affectionally know as "Tee" was born on October 21, 1955, in Grove Hill, Alabama to the late Jimmie and Ethel Mae Glen Dickinson.

He attended Clarke County High School and graduated in 1975. He was a member of Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church until moved to Detroit,MI, where he later united with New Westside Missionary Baptist Church untit his death on May 9, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Jimmie and Ethel Mae Glen Dickinson, sister, Mary Dickinson Kugeji , brothers, George, Charles, Jimmy Lee, John, and Clayton Dickinson.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, one devoted Lula (Lorenzo) Hayes of Detriot, MI. and Worthy Bowen of Grove Hill, Alabama; brother, Melvin Dickinson of Grove Hill, Alabama. Brother -in-law, Ayo Kufeji of Detriot,MI.; sister-in- law, Carolyn Dickinson. A host of nieces, two devoted, Grace (Steve) Riley and Yolanda Dickinson both of Detroit,MI., nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.

The Graveside service was held on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 11:00am Orange Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Randy Jevon Bumpers, 50, of Jackson, Alabama, affectionately known as “Bump” peacefully transitioned from this life on May 18, 2026, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. Randy gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Berry’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

During his youth, Randy was recognized for his athletic ability and love of sports. He attended Coffeeville High School, where he proudly played for the Coffeeville High School football and basketball teams. His competitive nature and outgoing personality made a lasting impression on classmates, friends, and all who knew him. Following high school, he attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, and later served in the United States Air Force.

Randy was a passionate fan of Auburn Tigers football and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team. Win or lose, his Auburn pride remained strong and was something family and friends always associated with him.
Randy was most proud of his children and grandchildren, who brought immense joy and meaning to his life. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with family, share stories, laugh, and encourage those he loved.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving parents, Charles “Randal” Bumpers and Edith Bumpers; his children, Randy J. (Sofia) Bumpers II, Chasity Bumpers, Javonte Bradley, and Holly Wade; his grandchildren, Soriya Bumpers and Mikyah Johnson; his devoted companion, Melanie Simmons; along with a host of other relatives, friends, loved ones, and community members who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.J. and Delia Mae Bumpers, and Archie and Virgie Stewart.
