The MIND Center at UMMC

The MIND Center at UMMC A biomedical research center investigating Alzheimer's disease at the University of Mississippi Medic

The MIND Center is a group of investigators from different disciplines working together to illuminate the causes of Alzheimer's and related neurodegenerative dementias through cutting-edge research. In 2010 the MIND Center was tapped to head a new $26 million study comprised of some of the world's leading medical research institutions to look at mid-life risk factors for dementia. The new study, c

alled the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Neurocognitive Study, will examine more than 20 years of test results taken at regular intervals on 16,000 study participants and include a new round of testing. With that unique window into the past, research hope to further understand the early factors that lead to Alzheimer's. The MIND Center brings together some of the largest neuro-epidemiological studies ever conducted, state-of-the-art brain imaging and powerful new genetic technologies to accelerate the pace of discovery.

šŸ© Celebrating National Donut Day with a reminder that joy can be found in the smallest moments.

A familiar treat can bring comfort, spark recognition, and create meaningful connection. The simple sweetness of a donut isn’t just about taste—it’s about the memories it can bring back, the smiles it can inspire, and the warmth it can create when words may be hard to find. Moments like these may seem small, but they stay with us. Because sometimes, joy really is that simple.

šŸ’š Today is National Senior Health & Fitness Day

Staying active doesn’t have to mean intense workouts. Small, consistent movements can support physical health, brain health, and overall well‑being at any age.

Every movement counts. Activities that feel manageable and enjoyable can help support strength, balance, cognitive health, and independence over time.

At The MIND Center, we believe wellness is about meeting people where they are and supporting healthy aging in meaningful ways.

⭐Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the service members who gave their lives in service to our country.

As we reflect, we also recognize the enduring impact of loss on families, communities, and generations. Remembering, honoring, and caring for one another are essential parts of emotional and mental well‑being.

We extend our gratitude and respect to those who are remembered today.

šŸ’On Mother’s Day, we want to say thank you to the mothers and care partners whose presence makes hard moments easier and good moments stronger for those living with Alzheimer's and dementia.

Care like that—patient, consistent, and thoughtful—supports emotional health in meaningful ways. Today, we recognize that contribution and the many forms it takes.
