Congratulations DAISY Award Recipient, Kimber Downs!🌼

We're proud to celebrate Kimber Downs of Specialty Care, recently honored with the DAISY Award for her exceptional compassion and clinical excellence. When a Veteran needed critical lab work for diabetes management, Kimber stepped in without hesitation. Using a trauma-informed approach, she helped the Veteran through the procedure with patience, empathy, and steady reassurance, positioning herself so he wouldn't see the needle, using distraction techniques, and ensuring he felt respected and heard throughout. Thanks to her care, the Veteran completed labs essential to his surgical planning and later shared that it was the easiest blood draw he'd ever experienced.

Kimber's actions reflect the very best of nursing: compassion, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to Veteran-centered care. Please join us in congratulating Kimber on this well-deserved recognition!

Congratulations to Tatyana Walker, this quarter's BEE Award recipient!🐝

Tatyana consistently exemplifies the VA's I CARE values through her dedication, professionalism, and compassionate service. When a newly enrolled Veteran arrived unsure of where to go or what services were available, Tatyana welcomed him warmly, walked him through check-in, and clearly explained his benefits and next steps. She personally escorted him to the appropriate clinic and made sure he felt comfortable throughout.
