What does work mean to you?

This Labor Day, we’re thinking about what work means.

Work can mean purpose. Independence. Financial stability. The opportunity to contribute your talents, pursue your goals and build a better financial future.

For people with disabilities, access to meaningful employment can be an important pathway to greater economic opportunity and financial independence. Yet gaps in employment and economic participation remain.

At National Disability Institute, we envision a future where people with disabilities have the same opportunities to work, earn, advance and achieve financial stability as people without disabilities.

Today, we celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and reaffirm our commitment to advancing employment opportunities and building an economy where everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive. 🛠️

Transition planning works best when young people have a real voice in shaping what comes next.

In this YETI podcast episode, Michael, Elizabeth, and Billy talk about starting with a young person’s strengths and interests, building self-advocacy skills in everyday life, and how adults can listen more intentionally to youth and families throughout the transition to adulthood.
