Everyone’s obsessed with farmers’ carries and sled work, and rightfully so.
But if your core can’t resist multiple directional pulls, you’re leaking power in almost every station.
Enter the crossbody carry: carrying a weight on one side, offset from your center. Your obliques and deep core have to fight to keep you upright instead of letting you tip sideways.
Here’s why it matters for the movements you’re already training:
🤩 Sled push/pull: Uneven force through your arms means your trunk wants to twist. A strong core keeps your push efficient instead of wasting energy fighting your own body.
🤩 Farmers carry: Even when you’re loaded evenly, fatigue makes one side dominate. Crossbody carries build the stability that keeps your gait symmetrical when you’re gassed at station 8.
🤩 Wall balls: Repetitive flexion under fatigue is where form breaks down and lower backs pay the price. A resilient core, not just a strong one, is what keeps your reps clean at rep 70 plus.
🤩 Lunges: Single leg work already challenges your core to resist rotation and lateral lean. Crossbody carries are basically lunges’ best friend: same demand, different angle.
Bottom line: HYROX isn’t just sagittal plane fitness. Train multiple planes for your core and watch your carries, your sled, and your lunges all get more efficient.
Add crossbody carries to your accessory work. Your future race day self will thank you!
