Every patient is unique, and sometimes the little things can make a huge difference in confidence and success with hearing devices.

Orienting and inserting hearing aids correctly can be challenging, especially for first time users. We can paint the devices with custom acrylic colors to help patients identify the orientation of their devices and insert them properly. A simple splash of color can provide more confidence in managing the devices and less frustration with hearing aid insertion.

👂✨ The Power of Modern Hearing Technology + Probe Microphone Verification ✨👂

A patient with very little hearing remaining came to us for a second opinion, wondering if better hearing was still possible. With the current hearing aids, shown in red, he had virtually no access to high-frequency sounds above 3000 Hz—many of the speech cues needed for clarity, especially consonants like s, f, th, and sh, were simply out of reach.

Using newer hearing aid technology, we were able to activate high-frequency compression, moving high frequency sounds he could not hear into lower frequency regions where he still had usable hearing. The result, shown in blue, gave him access to sounds up to 6000 Hz.

Even more exciting? Word recognition ability with the hearing aids improved by over 20%!

This improvement wasn't based on guesswork. It was made possible by using probe microphone measurements (real-ear verification) to confirm that these high-frequency sounds were truly audible. Probe microphone verification is considered the gold standard in hearing aid fitting because it allows us to measure exactly what is reaching the ear and ensure patients are receiving the maximum benefit from their technology. Advanced hearing aid features can make a tremendous difference—but only when they are properly programmed, verified, and individualized to each person's hearing loss.

**🎧 Is Your Hearing Aid Suddenly Quiet? It Might Just Need a New Wax Filter!**

Did you know that one of the most common reasons a hearing aid sounds weak or stops working is a clogged wax filter?

The tiny receiver (speaker) inside your hearing aid is responsible for delivering sound into your ear. When earwax or debris blocks the receiver, **sound physically can't come out—even though the hearing aid is still amplifying sounds.**

That's where the wax filter comes in! Wax filters are designed to protect the receiver from earwax and moisture. The good news is that they're replaceable, and changing a clogged wax filter often restores your hearing aid's performance in just a few minutes.

**When should you change your wax filter?**
✔️ Your hearing aid sounds weak or much quieter than usual.
✔️ Sound is intermittent or cuts in and out.
✔️ You can see wax or debris in the filter.

Regular cleaning and replacing wax filters can help keep your hearing aids working their best and may prevent unnecessary repairs.

At first glance, an over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid and a prescription hearing aid may look very similar. They both sit in or behind the ear, amplify sound, and may even have similar features on the outside.

But what's inside—and how it's fitted—can make a world of difference.

Think of it like shopping for a wedding dress:

💍 Prescription Hearing Aid + Probe Microphone Measurements
= A custom wedding dress made specifically for you.

Your hearing loss is measured, your hearing aid is programmed to your exact needs, and probe microphone (Real Ear) measurements verify that the correct amount of sound is reaching your eardrum. It's personalized for the best comfort, clarity, and performance.

👗 OTC Hearing Aid
= Everyone gets the same size wedding dress.

It may fit some people reasonably well, but many will find it too big, too small, or simply not appropriate for their needs. Without professional testing and verification, there's no way to know whether you're getting the right amount of amplification at the right frequencies for the right sounds.

📋 FDA Approval: Not All Approvals Are the Same

Prescription hearing aids are FDA-regulated medical devices designed to be selected and fitted based on an individual's hearing loss. They are intended to be part of a comprehensive hearing healthcare process.

OTC hearing aids are FDA-regulated for adults with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss and are designed to be purchased without a hearing evaluation or professional fitting.

Fireworks are a fun part of celebrating Independence Day, but they can also be loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage.

Did you know that fireworks can reach sound levels of 150-175 decibels? That's well above the level that can damage hearing instantly.

Here are a few simple ways to protect your ears while enjoying the festivities:
