Today is International Self-Compassion Day. 💗

Established in 2024 by the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, International Self-Compassion Day is observed each year on the third Saturday in July. The day was created to increase global awareness of self-compassion and invite people across cultures to pause, recognize our shared humanity, and practice responding to themselves with greater kindness during difficult moments.

In honor of International Self-Compassion Day, I am sharing “The Healing Power of Self-Compassion” from the practice blog. The article reviews the psychology of compassion, the research-supported benefits of self-compassion, its three core elements, and how harsh self-criticism can intensify distress. It also offers a brief introduction to Compassion Focused Therapy and practical ideas for bringing more self-compassion into daily life. Details on reading more can be found in the comments.

Happy International Self-Compassion Day! 💗

What comes to mind for you when you think of mindfulness? Perhaps meditation, yoga, or something different all together. As far as a definition, mindfulness is the practice of bringing one’s attention to the present moment in a wholehearted and non-judgmental fashion.

If you would like to learn more about how mindfulness can help with stress and anxiety, then check out my latest blog post.
