I found the way things sometimes find you when you’re finally ready.
A post on Instagram. A name I didn’t know. A flight from Florida to Los Angeles booked on something between curiosity and desperation.
I had tried a lot of things by then. Osteopath. Chiropractor. Deep tissue. Some helped for a while. Some didn’t. Some made it worse. None of them held for me personally long-term. Somewhere in that cycle I started to believe this was just how it was going to be. Manage it. Get better when a flare-up hit, then stop. Wait for the next one.
I had even played with the idea of moving to Hamburg. To be closer to the one person who could get me out of it. That’s what chronic pain does quietly. It starts making decisions for you.
When I walked into Jimmy’s space on Santa Monica Blvd I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time. Excited. Not hopeful exactly. Just open. Something felt different before it had even started.
He assessed me. Then got to work. Not forceful. Not aggressive. More like a conversation with the body. Layer by layer. Creating space.
When I got off that table something had shifted. Shoulders further back. Space between my hip and my rib cage that hadn’t been there before. I felt taller. More open. More aligned. Like I’d been carrying myself smaller than I needed to without ever realizing it.
Jimmy talked about integration throughout. Not just what happens on the table. What happens in the life around it. That landed differently at that time.
I came back. Lower body next. Then a full second round. Sessions that started every six weeks gradually stretched to every six months. Not because I was being “managed”. Because something had actually changed.
Healing and growth are rarely linear. There were other parts of my life shifting too. It’s never just one thing.
But that table in Los Angeles was where hope came back. And hope was what I needed to start doing the work that actually lasts.
One layer at a time. 🌿
