Oceanview Therapy Oceanview Therapy was established in 2022 and is co-owned by Alicia Earl and Carmen Schneider.

Alicia and Carmen are two speech-language pathologists specializing in online service delivery, comprehensive speech-language evaluations, and IEP compliance. Oceanview Therapy was established in 2022 by Carmen Schneider, national and state licensed speech-language pathologist. Oceanview Therapy is currently serving pediatric clients in-home (Florida only) and via telepractice in Florida and Calif

ornia. Carmen received a bachelors degree with honors in Communication Science and Disorders from Florida State University in 2009. As FSU was a top 20 institution in the field, she studied under autism, stuttering, and voice research experts. Carmen received her masters degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. During her clinical fellowship year in Atlanta, Carmen was supervised and trained by board certified language specialists and authors. After relocating to San Diego, California, Carmen completed her clinical fellowship working with elementary aged students in public schools. Oceanview Therapy is the result of Carmen’s decade of experience as a researcher and service provider. Her pediatric experience includes working in the public schools, private practice, and outpatient clinics. She constantly participates in professional education to stay on-trend with the latest evaluation and treatment topics. Carmen has worked with all ages, as well as mild to profound severity levels.

One of the simplest ways to encourage communication is to pause and wait.⁠
⁠
When your child wants a snack, toy, or turn during play, resist the urge to immediately jump in. Instead, pause for a few seconds and give them an opportunity to communicate.⁠
⁠
For example:⁠
⁠
🍎 Instead of immediately handing over the apple slices, hold them up and wait.⁠
⁠
🧸 Instead of starting the bubbles right away, hold the bubble wand and pause.⁠
⁠
Those few extra seconds can encourage children to use words, gestures, signs, or AAC to communicate their wants and needs.⁠
⁠
✨ Communication grows when children have opportunities to take a turn in the conversation.⁠

While educational videos and apps can be entertaining, language develops most effectively through real conversations with caring adults. Every time you talk, read, sing, play, or even run errands together, you're helping build your child's vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills.

Instead of asking a series of questions, talk about what you're doing and invite your child into the conversation.

"I see a big red apple! I'm going to put it in the cart. What fruit do you think we should get next?"

What is the Complexity Approach?⁠
⁠
The Complexity Approach is a speech therapy strategy that focuses on teaching children more complex speech sounds first, rather than starting with the easiest sounds.⁠
⁠
Why? Research suggests that when children learn a more challenging sound, they often make progress on easier sounds too!⁠
⁠
For example, if a child has difficulty producing several sounds, a speech-language pathologist may target a later-developing sound such as /r/ or a consonant blend instead of beginning with an earlier-developing sound. This can help create broader changes across the child's speech system.⁠
⁠
✨ The goal isn't just to teach one sound at a time. The goal is to help the entire speech system grow and become more organized.⁠
⁠
Every child is different, which is why speech therapy plans are individualized based on each child's unique strengths and needs.⁠
