When it comes to compliance, Andrea Eklund, JD, CHC, CHPC, CPC, has us more than covered, so it's only fitting that she was featured on the cover of Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA)'s Compliance Today magazine! 📘💙

Andrea serves as our Senior Vice President, Compliance & Internal Audit, and Chief Compliance Officer, and you can see her influence across our facilities. Her commitment to excellence has ensured that compliance has not only stayed at the forefront of our organization but has helped guide key strategic initiatives. Andrea is fluent in the language of compliance, but it's not all regulations and red tape. Here's Andrea on what compliance means to her:

"Over the years, I have come to believe that the most effective compliance programs are not defined by regulations, audits, or investigations alone. At its best, compliance is a strategic capability that shapes how an organization thinks, decides, and operates every day. It influences how leaders assess risk, how teams solve problems, how governance is executed, and ultimately how organizations fulfill their mission with integrity.

As health care continues to evolve, compliance leaders have a unique opportunity to move beyond being viewed as oversight functions and instead serve as trusted partners in organizational strategy. When compliance is embedded in decision-making, organizations are better positioned to innovate confidently, manage risk effectively, and build cultures where doing the right thing is simply how work gets done.

I am thankful to the many colleagues, mentors, and team members who have challenged, supported, and inspired me throughout my journey. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of exceptional professionals who demonstrate every day that integrity, accountability, and collaboration are essential to organizational success."

Way to make us , Andrea! You can read her feature here: https://bit.ly/4fS4UfR

Congratulations to Angela Finley, RN on celebrating her 45th (!!!) anniversary at Baptist Health! 💙

Angela works in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) of our Heart Day Hospital, and she's been a constant source of comfort and care for our patients. Angela has seen technology change dramatically since she first began at Baptist Health, but her commitment to patient care has always remained her top priority.

Angela began working at Baptist Health right after graduating from nursing school. The decision to stay for 45 years was an easy one, she says.

"Baptist Health has always made me feel appreciated since the first day I started. I would never leave Baptist Health because they've always been so good to me and I can't imagine working anywhere else."

We can't imagine it either, Angela. Thank you for all that you've done for our team, our patients and our community. You've truly made us ! 💙

Let's hear it for Angela in the comments! 🎉

We are to welcome Thomas J. Gough, MHA, as Baptist Health's new executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO), effective September 14, 2026.

Thomas brings nearly four decades of executive leadership experience to Baptist Health, including the past decade with a nationally recognized health system in North Carolina. As EVP and COO at WakeMed Health and Hospital System in Raleigh, he helped expand access to cancer care, opened new care locations, improved patient safety and quality outcomes, and advanced innovative approaches that enhanced both patient experience and operational performance. His leadership also contributed to national recognition for clinical excellence, workplace culture, diversity and maternity care, while supporting the system's commitment to expanding access and serving vulnerable communities.

As COO, Thomas will oversee operations across the health system. Working closely with President and CEO Matthew A. Zuino, MSIS, FACHE, and other members of the executive leadership team, he will help advance quality and patient safety, enhance patient experience and support sustainable growth. He will also help align clinical and operational priorities, expand access to integrated care and ensure Baptist Health continues to meet the evolving needs of the communities it serves.

“Baptist Health is entering a new chapter of growth and innovation, and Thomas brings the leadership experience needed to help us build for the future,” said Matthew A. Zuino. “By aligning strategy, operational excellence and patient-centered care, he will play a critical role in expanding Baptist Health’s impact on the communities we serve.”

Thomas succeeds Matthew following his transition from EVP and COO to President and CEO earlier this year.

“Baptist Health has an outstanding reputation for clinical excellence and a deep commitment to the communities it serves,” said Thomas. “What impressed me most was the incredible team who brings the mission to life every day. I'm honored to join an organization with such a strong legacy in serving Northeast Florida. I look forward to working alongside Matt, the leadership team and team members across the system as we build on that foundation and help shape an even stronger future for the patients and communities who count on Baptist Health.”

Thomas earned his Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota and his Bachelor of Science in Health Planning and Administration from Pennsylvania State University. A former Academic All-American in track and field at Pennsylvania State University, he has remained active in athletics and youth mentorship throughout his career.

Please join us in welcoming Thomas to Jacksonville and Baptist Health!

One family's cancer journey has inspired a gift that will bring comfort for countless others. 🎁

After watching his dad, Jake Gordon, Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center Development Council member, celebrate five years cancer-free, local student and Scouting America member Alex knew he wanted to give back to families facing similar challenges. As part of his Eagle Scout Project, Alex donated a snack station to the Oncology and Cellular Therapy unit at Baptist Health, which will be opening in September.

🍪🧃 Stocked with a variety of snacks, the station will offer patients and their loved ones a little extra comfort during inpatient hospital stays. Alex also assembled care kits filled with thoughtful essentials - including deodorant, fragrance-free lotion, lip balm, blankets, sleep masks, travel pillows and activities like crossword puzzles and word searches - to help make long hospital days a little easier.

To help keep the snack station stocked for future patients and families, Alex and his family also presented a generous $2,500 donation.

Thank you, Alex, for your compassion, generosity and commitment to making a difference. Your thoughtful gift will support patients and families for years to come. 💙

Back or neck pain isn't something you just have to "live with." 🩻 If pain is interfering with your daily life, it's worth knowing that treatment options have come a long way.

Back pain can affect more than your body - it can impact your ability to work, exercise, spend time with family and enjoy the activities you love. Dr. Sasha Vaziri, neurosurgeon with Lyerly Neurosurgery at Baptist Health, joined River City Live on WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX to share how minimally invasive and ultra-minimally invasive spine treatments are changing the way some conditions are treated.

Unlike traditional approaches that may require large incisions and greater disruption of surrounding muscles, minimally invasive techniques use smaller openings and muscle-sparing approaches. For eligible patients, that means less postoperative pain, quicker mobility and faster recovery. 🚶‍♂💪

🔗 From herniated discs to scoliosis, today's spine treatments are more advanced than ever! Watch Dr. Vaziri demonstrate how these procedures work: https://go.baptistjax.com/4xu0vpo.

One of the main reasons we built the Baptist Center for Professional Excellence was to provide a simulation lab for health care professionals to replicate real-world encounters from the front lines. 🩺

Some of our perioperative registered nurses were able to use the lab last week to simulate every bit of meticulous preparation that goes into getting a patient ready for surgery. The patient may not have been real, but everything else in the room was, and the nurses did a wonderful job. The Center for Professional Excellence allows them to repeat these simulations so that it’s muscle memory when it comes time for the real thing! 💙
