We were proud to be represented at the Florida Medical Association Annual Meeting, where our delegation joined physicians from across the state to help shape the future of medicine in Florida.

Representing FSO were Drs. Zelia Correa, Krishna Kishor, Mollie Lagrew and Ron Adelman, with FSO President Dr. Ahad Mahootchi also in attendance.

Thank you to our delegates for representing Florida ophthalmologists and helping ensure our specialty has a strong voice within organized medicine.

👀 💙 In recognition of Amblyopia Awareness Month, the For Eye Care Foundation held a pediatric vision screening this weekend during the Caridad Center’s annual back-to-school event in Boynton Beach.

Volunteers screened 47 children, with 11 referred to local ophthalmologists for further evaluation and monitoring. For some children, it was their first eye exam. Parents were also educated about the risks of amblyopia and provided with additional resources.

We are grateful for all our dedicated volunteers, including Dr. Laura B. Sims; Dr. Lauree Manning and her staff; Nova Southeastern University medical students Armand Ceniza and Wesley Burrow; Delray Beach Lions Felisa De Kler and Elise Chang; and Michelle Russell and Rosemary Mulero from the Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches for donating their time and expertise.

We also extend our gratitude to Brenda Lopez for the invitation and Connie Berry, co-founder of the Caridad Center, whose kindness continues to touch so many lives.

Early vision screenings are critical in identifying conditions that can affect vision and development. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month.

Dr. Michael Struck has an important message for parents: If you have concerns about your child’s vision, start with your pediatrician and follow their recommendations.

“The biggest problem I see is late arrival and prolonged non-treatment,” he said. “Getting kids in sooner is always better.”
