Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa Consequently, we ultimately aim for the ability to manipulate the microenvironments of these cells in order to find better therapies to fight brain cancer.

Cutting Edge Research that Translates into Patient Care: Our national leading role in the design and the completion of multi-center clinical trials allows us to apply the most promising discoveries from the laboratory to patient care. Our goal in the Brain Tumor Stem Cell Laboratory at Mayo Clinic, Florida is to understand the function of these human brain stem cells and how they may play a role in the origin of brain tumors.

Mission brain in Mexico (Guadalajara. June 2024) was inspiring.
As I return I reflect on it.

All went well

We did 5 complex brain tumor surgeries in 5 inspiring patients with multidisciplinary teams between Mexico and the United States—patients gave us hope that we can change the world

We had a student event with over 300 participants

We had a patient and families support event

We had an event with children in the pediatric wing of the hospital where we used art as therapy

Our teams included several hospitals and universities (working together) and nurses and doctors and students and I estimate about 200 volunteers to make all these surgeries and events happen

We touched so many patients and families together—but most importantly they touched us. They changed our lives forever as they do every time we travel and do this

Sunday we debriefed with our mission brain leaders and physicians and volunteers leaders from Mexico to dream about how and what we will make better and then simply execute our dreams
