What Is a Hernia? Understanding a Common Condition with Dr. Viktor Fedorov

A hernia is a defect in the abdomen. Depending on the area, the organ or tissue pushes through a weakened area in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. This often creates a noticeable bulge beneath the skin and can cause discomfort, pressure, or pain; especially during lifting, coughing, bending, or physical activity.

☀️ The summer months are here, and they are HOT! ☀️

After spending a long day at the beach or a nice stroll through the park and you find yourself burnt, here are some tips to treat it at home:

🧴Moisturizers, such as Cetaphil (as long as it doesn't irritate the skin) or formulations that contain aloe, can help soothe, hydrate, and cool the skin.
🌿 Hydrocortisone cream can help calm the inflammation.
💊 Taking over-the-counter oral pain medication helps reduce pain and inflammation.
💧 Hydrate! Drinking water helps hydrate the body and prevent common side effects of sunburn, such as dehydration.

Remember to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day to avoid sunburns and reduce your risk of skin cancer—your skin will thank you!

Tomorrow, July 25th, from 11 AM to 6 PM, the Onslow Hispanic Latino Association will host its 4th Annual Summer Latin Fiesta, featuring a variety of food trucks, live music, fun activities for kids, and a car show to celebrate our community's Latin, Hispanic, and Caribbean culture!

In honor of the event, Onslow Memorial Hospital will offer stroke screenings and education.

☀️ July is UV Safety Month ☀️

Sunscreen is super important, especially during the summer months. Wearing sunscreen helps protect your skin against harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and wrinkles.

Erik Lickteig, PA-C, from Central Coast Dermatology, shares some sunscreen tips that can protect your skin this summer.

🧴 Focus on mineral-based sunscreen products like zinc or titanium.
✅ Use SPF 30 or higher.
🤚 Focus on lotion or cream sunscreens as they are more protective of your skin.
👒 For infants, focus more on sun shields, shade, and protective clothing.
