🫶🙌 yes!! This is amazing during recovery

Feeding lying down can be an absolute game changer for breastfeeding mums🤱✨

Especially in those early weeks when you’re recovering, exhausted, and spending what feels like all day feeding your baby.

Side-lying feeds can help you:
💛 Rest while feeding
💛 Take pressure off stitches or sore bodies
💛 Make night feeds feel more manageable
💛 Slow things down and help you relax

And for many babies, it becomes one of the calmest, cosiest ways to feed

Like any breastfeeding position, it can take a little practice at first, but once it clicks, so many mums say they wish they’d tried it sooner.

Breastfeeding doesn’t always have to happen sat upright with perfect posture. Sometimes the best position is simply the one that helps you both rest and reconnect🌙

Let’s spill the milk on the most common breastfeeding challenges I see…

Poor latch… ouch. 😖
Not every baby is born knowing exactly how to latch. There are many small structures and movements that all have to coordinate, so if things feel pinchy, shallow, or like your toes are curling from pain… It’s worth getting help!

Ni**le pain 😖
Breastfeeding should not hurt. Full stop. 🛑
Tender in the first few days? Sometimes.
Toe-curling, wincing, or dreading the next feed? Not normal. 🙅

Pain is information. 📄 It usually means something about the latch, positioning, or oral function needs adjusting.

Mastitis
This one is no joke. 👎👎 Mastitis is inflammation of the breast tissue and can come with breast pain, redness, fever, flu-like symptoms, or a firm area that doesn’t soften after feeding. Continue to feed/remove milk regularly, cool compress for inflammation, and rest.

Engorgement 🤱
This one can be confusing, especially in the early days when milk first comes in.
Engorged breasts tend to feel rock hard, swollen, and very tender. The instinct is often to pump a lot to empty the breast… but that can actually tell your body to keep making that much milk. Try gentle hand expression, pumping to comfort, and cool compresses. Relief usually happens well before the breast is fully emptied.

Low milk supply ↘
Low milk supply is actually less common than people think, but when it happens, it deserves real support! If you feel like your baby isn’t getting enough or feeds feel like a constant struggle, that’s a good time to reach out to an experienced lactation professional. You deserve guidance that’s tailored to you and your baby.

Breastfeeding can come with a learning curve for both baby and parent. Support makes a big difference. 🤍

You’re doing a hard job, beautifully.

This is what I needed to hear when one feed morphed into the next.

When only my arms would do...

When 2am stretched to 3am and more...

I needed to know that is really was as hard as it felt.

I needed to know that my trying, which so often felt like failing, was genuinely enough.

So just in case you need to hear it today – you're doing a hard job beautifully.

Tag/share with a mama who might need to hear this too.
