Meet Dr. Karen Stallings a presenter at the 10th Anniversary BMHS.

Dr. Stallings powerful workshop takes a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and systems-based approach to su***de prevention among Black youth.

Participants will explore how racial trauma, chronic stress, stigma, and systemic inequities shape the way distress is expressed, recognized, and addressed. We’ll also examine the role of schools, clinical settings, families, and faith-based communities in creating pathways to safety and healing. Participants will be introduced to the Pause. Probe. Protect. framework and apply it through case-based analysis, guided conversations, and systems-mapping exercises.

Lydia will present: “From Stigma to Safety: Recovery-Oriented, Healing-Centered Substance Use Care in Black Communities."This powerful session invites clinicians to move beyond stigma-based, compliance-driven care toward culturally responsive, recovery-oriented, and healing-centered practice.
