THE HONEST ANSWER 👀
”Will my kid leave with a prescription?”

Not necessarily.

An intial psychiatric evaluation is so much more than writting a perscription and sending you on your way. Whether medication is apart of your childs care plan or not, your visit may also include:

1. A diagnosis and answers to questions you may have.
2. A referral to a therapist or a neuropsych evaluation, if that is what would genuinely help more.
3. Documentation that helps you get the support your child may need in school.
4. Sometimes just language. Someone sitting down and explaining what is happening in your child’s brain, to them and to you.

And yes, sometimes it does end with medication. But that is one tool out of several, and it is never the automatic answer here.

Bringing your child to a psychiatric appointment can feel like a big step, especially when you are not sure what the visit will actually look like.

At Tide Health, pediatric appointments are designed to feel calm, thorough, and age-appropriate.

For younger children, parents usually do most of the talking. School-age children are included in ways that feel comfortable for them. Teens may have part of the visit privately with the provider, while parents still remain an important part of the process.

Your child does not need to sit perfectly still, know what to say, or “perform” for the appointment.

The goal is simply to understand what has been going on at home, at school, and within your child’s day-to-day life so we can talk through the right next steps together.

That's why we brought on Cristina Lopez Seiler, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with over 15 years of experience working specifically with children and adolescents.

We are so excited to announce that she's now accepting pediatric patients at Tide Health, in office in St. Johns and by telehealth across Florida. She accepts Aetna, Cigna, UHC, Carelon, and BCBS.
