I was that child, a childhood spent in silence. Suffered situational mutism, and a voice crushed by trauma.
Now I am a public speaker, and have found my voice through late discovery of my autism and connecting with other neurodivergent voices.

If you grew up feeling unable to express emotions safely, there’s a good chance you learned how to stay quiet very quickly.
A lot of us learned how to suppress feelings, avoid conflict, stay small, keep the peace, or hide what was really going on internally just to get through difficult situations growing up.
And even years later, those survival behaviours can still follow us into adulthood.
We might struggle to ask for help. Feel guilty for taking up space. Panic over conflict. Shut down emotionally when overwhelmed. Feel responsible for everybody else’s emotions while ignoring our own.
A lot of these responses did not come from weakness.
They came from adapting to environments that did not feel emotionally safe.
Stay Strong ❤️
