Some of you know that my son, Ronan, was injured at birth and now lives with cerebral palsy.

Being his mom has changed so much about the way I see the work that I do.

Long before Ronan was born, I spent years working with people with physical and developmental disabilities. I had experience caring for people with complex needs, including feeding tubes and other medical supports. Then I became a massage therapist and continued learning about the body, the nervous system, movement, fascia, touch, and healing.

I had no idea then how deeply I would someday need all of those pieces of my life.

Now I get to bring them together for my own little boy.

Massage and bodywork have become another way I can support Ronan. I get to help him experience his body through safe touch, movement, relaxation, connection, and play. And as I’ve continued my education, especially in myofascial work, I’ve found even more ways to meet his body where it is rather than trying to force it to be somewhere else.

There are many things about his journey that I wish I could change. But I am incredibly grateful that when life handed me the responsibility of caring for this beautiful, complicated little body, I already had so many tools in my hands.

Sometimes I think about all the jobs, experiences, education, and seemingly unrelated chapters that came before this one. I couldn’t see how they connected at the time.

Now I can.

Life has a way of giving meaning to things in hindsight. Maybe we don’t always know what we’re preparing for while we’re becoming who we are.

I feel incredibly blessed that some of the gifts I’ve spent my life developing are now gifts I can give to my son. 🤍

September Yin Pose: Reclined Butterfly

I’ve loved hearing how different yin poses resonate with the people I get to practice with, and this month I’m excited to feature Shavon and one of her favorites: Reclined Butterfly.

“I feel grounded in my body, and it really helps my hips.”

Reclined Butterfly is one of those poses that looks incredibly simple, but given a little time and stillness, there can be a lot to explore. It gently opens through the inner thighs, groin, hips, and front of the pelvis while giving you space to slow down and notice what’s happening in your body.

As always with yin, we aren’t trying to force the body into a certain shape or achieve the deepest stretch possible. Adjust your feet closer to or farther away from your body and find an edge you can breathe with. Support is always an option, not a requirement.

Thank you, Shavon, for sharing your pose and what you love about it. 💗

I’ve really enjoyed bringing some of the people I get to practice with into these monthly posts. If you’d like to be featured in an upcoming Monthly Yin Pose, send me a photo of yourself in your favorite yin pose along with a few sentences about why you love it!

**update**
Okay you guys… we are getting REALLY close to full 🍂🔥🤎

We’re already approaching 35 people registered for our Fall Equinox Fire Ritual!

We’re going to make space for just a handful more and then officially cap the evening at 40 people so we can keep it comfortable and make sure we have supplies prepared for everyone.

So if you’ve been thinking about coming, make sure you actually register to save your spot! Please don’t just plan on showing up, as we’ll only be preparing supplies for our registered guests.

The event is completely FREE and we seriously can’t wait to share this night with you guys.

Sunday, September 20
6-8pm
Beloit, WI

Call or text 608-436-8900 to register 🍂🔥

Once we hit 40, registration is closed! The Fall Equinox Fire Ritual is FREE!

We decided to simplify the whole thing. We’re still doing all of it… intention jars, meditation, journaling, the fire release, group Reiki, card reading, fall treats and warm drinks. We’re just going to cover the supplies ourselves and have a fun night with you guys.

If anyone feels like throwing a few dollars toward supplies, donations are absolutely welcome but definitely not expected.

We need everyone to register though so we know how many jars, treats and chairs to have ready!

Registration is now open for my next Yin-Style Yoga series!

This 7-week Chakra Series is designed to help you slow down, tune in, and explore each energy center through gentle, long-held postures, floor-based stretches, breath, reflection, and relaxation.

Yin yoga is a slower, more meditative style of practice where poses are held for longer periods of time, allowing us to work with the connective tissues of the body while creating space for stillness, presence, and self-awareness.

We’ll move through one chakra each week, ending each session with a crystal singing bowl tuned to that chakra’s healing frequency.

No yoga experience is needed. This class is beginner-friendly and open to all levels.

All supplies are provided.

Wednesdays
September 23 – November 4
6:30–7:30 PM

The Yoga Room
Paull Chiropractic Family Wellness Center

$175 for the full 7-week series

Space is limited, so reach out if you’d like to save your mat.

August Yin Pose: Banana

One of my favorite parts of teaching yin yoga is hearing how different poses resonate with different people.

This month I’m featuring Kelsey and one of her favorite poses, Banana.

“Banana Pose is one of my favorite yin yoga poses because it creates so much space in the body. This gentle side stretch opens the side body and feels especially good in my outer hips and lower back.”

I love that this picture feels so sunny because as I’m writing this, it’s rainy and gray outside. 😆

When you try Banana Pose today, chances are you’ll be indoors, but sunshine can be just a blink away in your mind’s eye.

Thank you, Kelsey, for sharing your favorite pose and why you love it.

And if you’d like to be featured in an upcoming Monthly Yin Pose, send me a photo and tell me why it’s your favorite. I’d love to keep sharing the many different ways yin yoga supports people.
