Mental Health for Missouri's Veterans and Families

Mental Health for Missouri's Veterans and Families This site is designed for both clinicians and the military community (service members, veterans and their families).

The Missouri Department of Mental Health's Veterans Services is committed to addressing behavioral health needs of Service Members, Veterans and their families. rain Injury, Suicide Prevention, Military Sexual Trauma and more. This site will also promote training to assist clinicians who want to work with service members, veterans and their families and provide professional development resources. The DMH Service Members, Veterans and their Families page are an open forum where anyone with an interest in behavioral health issues may inquire or express responsible, respectful opinions. Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation techniques may be helpful in managing a variety of stress-related health conditions, including anxiety associated with ongoing health problems and in those who are having medical procedures. Evidence suggests that relaxation techniques may also provide some benefit for symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and may help reduce occupational stress in health care workers.

Several mind and body approaches, including relaxation techniques, yoga, tai chi, and meditation may be useful for managing symptoms of stress in your patients.

Today is Missouri Buddy Check 22 Day

A Buddy Check can be as simple as asking twice.

Start with “How are you?” If they give the automatic "I'm fine" answer, ask again. “No really, how have you been holding up?”

Asking a second time can show someone you really care and that you are ready to listen.

Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong (by TED)

A 2015 TED talk that explores what really causes addiction -- to everything from co***ne to smart-phones? And how can we overcome it? Johann Hari has seen our current methods fail firsthand, as he has watched loved ones struggle to manage their addictions.
