Anyone else conduct yourself with a soccer ball and sing amidst ALL the toddler toys?

Musicians know they “should” workout. They know it might help them feel better. They know it’s good for them.

Ok… but like… then what?

The first step isn’t to go workout because what do you do on day 1? Day 2??

The first step is to know what you want and then make a plan move you closer to what you want life to look like.

It doesn’t have to be complicated or long. But the biggest mistake I see musicians make is thinking they should know what to do without thinking about it first. Making the plan IS part of the process.

Once the plan is made, all you have to do is follow *most* of the steps you’ve already laid out for yourself.

Even better… pay someone else to make the plan for you… 🙋‍♀️💁‍♀️😋

Got a plan? I want to hear about it! DM me and tell me what you’re up to!

I help musicians physically prepare and plan for the rigors of musicianship.

‘Cause making music can be hard on the bod!

Part 2 of 3

Having a plan makes everything better. Literally just go read what you’re supposed to be up to that day and then modify/adapt from there as needed.

It’s important to be ready musically, but your body needs to be ready, too!

It may or may not be realistic to be concert or performance ready at all times.

Life gets lifey, people! And we are just humans.

But what you can do is:
- know what your current stamina and readiness to play is now
- know how long it would take to get ready, and
- have a plan to get there if you had/wanted to.

Have you ever had to adjust your practice expectations because real life got in the way?

If you’ve been battling tension while singing, you might feel like you’ve been doing something wrong.

But that’s not necessarily the case. Muscles are really good at protecting you, at helping you make sound even if without great support. That tension is muscles working to HELP you.

For example, if you aren’t moving air easily enough, your jaw or your neck might volunteer to help. And it works for a while! Until it doesn’t.

So if you can’t seem to “just relax” and it’s getting in your way, it may be time to check in with the rest of your body… your rib cage, your abs, your pelvic floor, etc.

My fortissimo members have had some LIFEY MOMENTS lately. We can’t escape interruptions, but it’s all about how we return to ourselves and to our long-term plans.

I am often helping Fortissimo clients as they work through:
- injury or illness
- travel
- busy performance schedules
- work/school stressors
- family emergency
- kids’ needs
- holidays

The way we keep physical activity alive during these moments is to adjust expectations, customize the space/time/equipment uses, steer clear of judgment and shame, and by planning for what happens next.

The check-ins keep folks returning to their movement goals and keep the on the path to life they want for themselves.

What interruptions are you anticipating these next few weeks? I’d love to hear wha your plans for them are. DM me!
