Jet Logistics founder and CEO W. Ashley Smith, Jr. joined leading aviation safety experts from across the industry at the 2026 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas.

Participating in the National Safety Forum session “Managing Risk After Maintenance,” Smith, Jr. joined representatives from organizations including Wyvern, APS, NBAA, and the NTSB to address critical post-maintenance flight risks, pilot readiness, operational safety, and loss-of-control prevention.

With more than 40 years of aviation leadership and operational experience, Smith, Jr. is a recognized industry advocate and frequent speaker on aviation safety, regulatory compliance, flight operations, and aircraft maintenance.

His extensive background includes leadership across FAA Part 91, 135, and 145 operations, as well as national industry committees and safety organizations.

This week's example: a long-range Learjet 36 international air ambulance mission that took our flight crew past 0 degrees Latitude (aka the Equator) in the Pacific Ocean, just west of Ecuador!

A spectacular cockpit-cam view on final approach to Runway 35 at Lihue Airport (LIH) in Kauai, Hawaii—passing just left of the historic Ninini Point Lighthouse along the island's rugged southeast coast.

With FAA worldwide operating authority, Jet Logistics has extensive experience operating to and from international and OCONUS destinations—including throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Framed by the Pacific Ocean and the mountains of the “Garden Isle,” it's another remarkable view of what our ATP professionals see around the world while "Changing Lives, One Flight at a Time™."

✅ Ninini Point has served as an aid to navigation since the late 1800s. The present concrete tower was completed in 1932, first lit in 1933 and automated in 1953—and remains an active aid to navigation today. Just beyond it lies LIH’s 6,500-foot Runway 35, the airport’s predominant arrival runway during Hawaii’s prevailing trade-wind conditions.
