There is so much to learn about Myofunctional therapy and our airways. By having models, I have a physical example to represent my verbal explanation for my clients. 👄👅 I continue to educate myself!!📚📖 These books are not only a great resource for me! They are a wonderful education tool for my clients. My clients are able to take a book to read for themselves. Then we can have conversations at their future visits to expand their knowledge. If you would like more information to learn about the importance of your airway, message me!!

Mouth breathing can do more than sound different — it changes your oral environment and facial muscles, which affects dental health and development. Here’s how it ties into myofunctional therapy:

- Dry mouth from open-mouth breathing reduces saliva, raising risk of cavities, bad breath, and gum disease.
- When your tongue is laying on the floor of you mouth and you have open lips, these can contribute to malocclusion, narrow arches, and changes in facial growth (especially in children).
- Altered muscle patterns increase tension in the jaw and can worsen sleep-disordered breathing.

Myofunctional therapy helps by retraining the tongue, lips, and facial muscles to support nasal breathing and proper tongue placement:
- Exercises target tongue posture, lip seal, and nasal breathing habits.
- Improved muscle tone promotes better airway function and a healthier oral environment.

Virtual appointments offer a convenient, flexible, and effective way to receive myofunctional therapy from the comfort of your home. This type of appointment eliminates travel time, making scheduling easier, and allows clients to practice exercises in their natural environment. Virtual sessions also provide personalized guidance, real time feedback, and consistent support to help build healthy oral habits and achieve lasting results. All while fitting seamlessly into your daily routine.

Snoring ruining yours or your partners sleep? You may think snoring is common. Snoring can indicate compromised airway stability and weak airway muscles. Myofunctional therapy applies structured exercises to help strengthen tongue and orofacial muscles, helping reduce airway collapse and improve sleep quality. Best used as part of a multidisciplinary plan with other specialists. What may be common in actuality is not normal!!!

Myofunctional therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on improving the function and coordination of the muscles of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and jaw. Because swallowing depends on these muscles working together, myofunctional therapy is often used to address certain swallowing problems, although it is not appropriate for every type of swallowing disorder. Myofunctional therapy is most useful when swallowing difficulties are related to abnormal oral muscle function, such as:
Tongue thrust (the tongue pushes forward during swallowing), poor tongue posture, weak lip seal, mouth breathing associated with oral muscle dysfunction, or difficulty coordinating the tongue during swallowing.

Tongue posture matters!! Myofunctional therapy focuses on retraining tongue and orofacial muscles. When the whole tongue rests lightly on the roof of the mouth and the lips stay closed, it supports better breathing, improved airway function and orthodontic stability. Consider collaborating with a myofunctional therapist for a personalized assessment and guidance with individualized exercises. 👄🫁✨
