Updates for New World Screwworm NWS in Texas🪱
With the very recent cases (2) in Zavala and Uvalde counties, movement of livestock, including horses, is currently restricted in the affected counties.
Please refer to the TAHC link below for more details on dates, animals infected, and quarantine information.
As of June 7, Zavala and Uvalde are the only counties in Texas with restrictions, but this is a dynamic situation, and movement of livestock, including horses, both intrastate and interstate, may be affected in the days and/or weeks ahead.
If you plan to travel, especially out of state, be prepared that each state may have different entry requirements.
While Texas is working to control the spread of NWS, it's essential to stay vigilant at home. Good husbandry, fly control, and wound care are crucial in keeping your animals protected.
Keep in mind that NWS doesn't discriminate. In addition to livestock and horses, people, domestic animals, and wildlife are all susceptible.
Call your veterinarian if you notice any unusual symptoms, such as delayed wound healing.
