🥗 One of the biggest nutrition mistakes I made after ostomy surgery was assuming I could go right back to eating the way I always had.

I learned pretty quickly that my body had changed—and I needed to learn how to work with it instead of against it.

Hydration, electrolytes, chewing well, and paying attention to how individual foods affect me have all become part of that process. I still don’t get it perfect, and I don’t think that’s the goal.

✈️ Traveling with an ostomy sometimes means dealing with uncomfortable moments.

On one trip, TSA pulled me aside, patted down my pouch through my Stealth Belt, and performed additional screening. I felt like people were watching, and it was uncomfortable.

💧 Why can kidney stones be a concern with an ileostomy? Without the colon absorbing as much water and electrolytes, more fluid can leave through the stoma—making dehydration something to pay close attention to.

When you’re dehydrated, you produce less urine and that urine becomes more concentrated, which can make it easier for kidney stones to form.

Give yourself time to adjust. Find a pouching system that fits your body well. Pay attention to the skin around your stoma. Rebuild your strength gradually. And through all of it, remember: **your ostomy doesn’t define you.**

Small steps can build confidence over time.

🙌 Sometimes it’s the little things that can give you a sense of freedom with an ostomy.

Every once in a while, when I know my stoma and its routine well enough, I’ll go without my ostomy bag for a few hours. This definitely isn’t something that will work for everyone—it’s simply a personal “life hack” that works for me.

I call it **Liberation Day.**
