At just 4 years old, Emberlyn has faced challenges far beyond her years. Diagnosed with leukemia just before her second birthday, her journey began in October 2022, after her family noticed bruising and fatigue.
A quick lab draw changed everything. Within hours, they were sent to Niswonger Children’s Hospital — and just days later, she began receiving chemotherapy there as a St. Jude affiliate patient.
From the very beginning, Niswonger Children’s felt like more than a hospital. It felt like home.
For more than two years, Emberlyn visited the clinic weekly, receiving chemo through a port in her chest. “We were there every week for 120 weeks,” says her mom, Crystle. “The same nurses, same therapists - they became like family to us. They didn’t just care for her. They carried us through.”
Physical therapy, music therapy and occupational therapy filled their days. Even after her last treatment, Emberlyn asked to go back - proof of the warmth and comfort she felt there. “It wasn’t just treatment,” Crystle says. “It was love, every single visit.”
The day Emberlyn had her port removed marked the end of the treatment - and a new beginning. She is in remission, full of energy and excited to start preschool. With her hair grown back, she’s a happy, healthy 4-year-old.
The care at Niswonger Children’s Hospital didn’t just treat Emberlyn. It gave her family hope, support and a second home. And now, she faces her future stronger than ever.
