Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is the flagship hospital of Conemaugh Health System, a member of Duke LifePoint Healthcare and the largest healthcare provider in west central Pennsylvania, serving over a half-million patients each year. Unused or expired medications can pose serious risks when left unsecured at home or disposed of improperly. Taking a few minutes to clean out your medicine cabinet can help prevent accidental poisonings, prescription drug misuse and environmental harm.

Here’s how you can help:
✅ Check for unused or expired medications.
✅ Store medications securely and out of reach of children.
✅ Find a safe medication disposal location tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

🦠 Measles is spreading across our communities. Are you protected?

During Infection Prevention Week, it's important to recognize the signs of measles and know how to help prevent its spread, especially amid recent cases in our communities. With measles cases continuing to rise across Pennsylvania, now is a good time to review your family's vaccination records, know signs and symptoms, and limit your exposure.

Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications. Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that typically starts on the face and spreads downward.

✔️ Check that you and your family are up to date on recommended vaccinations. The MMR vaccine is the best protection against measles. Two doses are about 97% effective at preventing infection.
✔️ Know the symptoms. Be aware of the early signs of measles and monitor for symptoms if you've been exposed including high fever of more than 104 degrees, red watery eyes, small white spots inside the mouth, or a rash with flat red spots.
✔️ Limit your exposure where possible. If you suspect measles, stay home and avoid contact with others.
✔️ If you think you've been exposed to measles and develop symptoms, call your healthcare provider before visiting a medical office or hospital.

As the weather gets colder and we continue to spend more time indoors, prioritize protecting yourself. Protecting yourself helps protect those around you, especially infants and others who may be more vulnerable to serious illness. 💙
