Joanne was born in the Walnut Grove section of Johnstown and then moved with her family to
the Oakland part of Johnstown. She was a 1957 graduate of Johnstown High School. After
graduation, Joanne married Dino on July 23, 1960, and they began raising their family in
Franklin Borough. They eventually moved to Bon Air, where they raised their family of six
children.
Joanne was the ultimate caregiver to everyone. Her love for God and every person she
encountered was endless. She was one of the hardest-working and most selfless persons
known to our family and community. Joanne had an enthusiasm for life and always looked
forward to the next adventure. She enjoyed God's creation and would spend hours in nature
watching deer, birds, and any other creature that came along.
Joanne loved her church and church family. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Serbian
Orthodox Church, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, member/president of the Mother's Club,
and Kolo. In her earlier years, she attended Oakland United Methodist Church and shared fond
memories of her time spent at Jumonville Church Camp.
Joanne's service to the community extended into various areas, such as Girl Scout Leader,
helping her fellow neighbors, driving others to doctors' appointments, caregiver of elderly family
members, and Apheresis Donor with the American Red Cross, where she had donated well
over 300 units of platelets, which she took great pride in.
To have known Joanne was to have loved her. She was a role model who set a faithful example
on how to live a Kingdom-bound life here on earth. She was a woman of great faith, integrity,
strength, and love for all.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Concordia at Arbutus Park,
as well as the staff at Windber Hospice. Thank you for caring for and loving our Mother.
Friends will be received from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, 6/9/2026, at Henderson Funeral
Home, 2503 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA. The Venerable Hieromonk Sava (Grisco) will
celebrate Pomen Service at the funeral home at 7:00 PM on Tuesday. A funeral service will be
held on Wednesday, 6/10/2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, 1001 St.
Clair Road, Johnstown, PA.
In place of flowers, Joanne's wishes were that donations be made to St. Nicholas Serbian
Orthodox Church (Johnstown), Oakland Church (previously Oakland United Methodist Church -
Johnstown), American Red Cross, Concordia at Arbutus Park, or Windber Hospice.
"Remember me with smiles and laughter. If you must shed tears, make them tears of joy, for the
good Lord has asked me to walk home with him" - Margaret Joanne Uzelac.
