Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is offering a 𝗩𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗟 Caregiver Support Group for both our Lightways families and anyone in the community caring for a loved one with an advanced life-threatening illness. 💙

This virtual group will be co-facilitated by a Lightways Social Worker and Grief Counselor, who will guide discussions on coping with caregiver stress and the grief experienced during a loved one's illness.

Honoring Service With Service.

Last Friday, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, two of our veteran volunteers delivered a special care package to the firefighters at Station 7 in Joliet.

The drop-off featured a box of goodies from Operation Gratitude alongside fresh, homemade Rice Krispie treats crafted by our culinary team. It was a true privilege for our veterans to step up and extend our gratitude to Station 7 recognizing the brave firefighters who put everything on the line for our community every single day.

💙 A Gift of Honor and Remembrance

We are deeply grateful to the Grundy County Marine Corps League Detachment for their generous donation to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in memory of Olaf Enervold, who was a patient at Lightways in early August.

Olaf’s brother, Harion Enervold, traveled from Alabama to visit Olaf. During his visit, Harion was deeply impressed by the compassion and care Olaf received from the Lightways team. He was especially touched by our memorial tree adorned with dog tags—a meaningful symbol honoring the lives of those we have had the privilege to care for.

The Grundy County Marine Corps League traditionally provides support to families following the death of a loved one. When Harion declined assistance for the family and was given the opportunity to direct the donation to Lightways in Olaf’s name, he chose to do so. Following Olaf’s interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, the Detachment came together to make this thoughtful gift in his memory.

We are honored to receive this donation and grateful to the Grundy County Marine Corps League for recognizing Lightways as a place where Olaf was cared for with dignity, compassion and respect. 💙

Thank you for helping us continue providing comfort and support to patients and families facing serious illness and end-of-life care.

Happy Rosh Hashanah! 🍎🍯

This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Friday, September 11, and continues through nightfall on Sunday, September 13.

Traditions include:

✨ Evening candle lighting
🍽️ Festive meals with apples, honey, and other sweet delicacies
📿 Prayer services with the sounding of the shofar (ram’s horn)
🕊️ A pause from creative work to reflect and connect

Remembering September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years ago, the September 11 attacks left a lasting impact on the United States. The loss was felt not only by those who lost loved ones, but by an entire nation forever changed by that day.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken, the families and friends who continue to carry their memories, and the first responders and heroes who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of tragedy.

As we reflect 25 years later, may we continue to honor those we lost by remembering their lives, their stories, and the profound impact they left behind.

Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care remembers and honors all those affected by September 11, 2001.

Caring for a child with an advanced serious illness can bring challenges that are difficult to navigate alone. 💜

Our Virtual Pediatric Caregiver Support Group offers a safe and supportive space for parents and caregivers to connect with others who understand the unique experience of caring for a seriously ill child.

Each group provides an opportunity to share experiences, talk through caregiving challenges, discover helpful resources, and support one another along the journey. You don’t have to have all the answers, and you don’t have to go through it alone.

The group meets 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 twice each month:

📅 2nd Tuesday of each month
🕜 1:30–2:30 p.m.

📅 3rd Wednesday of each month
🌙 6:00–7:00 p.m.
