The Jonesborough Genealogical Society was created in 1990 and today is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to foster interest in preserving family history. The society provides monthly help nights and quarterly Genealogy 101 courses. Members enjoy genealogy days once a month with featured speakers or visits to local attractions. Paid membership in the society is from May 1 thru April 30 of the follo

Free Presentation / Workshop for the public by the Jonesborough Genealogy Society. This Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 10 a.m., Anne Mason from the McKinney Center will be giving a presentation about collecting and sharing stories. This is an excellent resource for local historians and genealogists. The presentation will be held at the Jonesborough Library meeting room - 200 Sabin Drive. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

The JGS Genealogy Day Presentation will held be Saturday, June 13 at 10:30 a.m in the Chester Inn Boardroom (behind the Chester Inn on W Main in Jonesborough). The presentation will focus on Revolutionary Land Grants, Pensions, and researching relatives who fought in the American Revolution.

All interested are welcome to attend.

Unfortunately, the presenter for the Saturday, May 30 JGS presentation had to cancel due to health reasons. We will postpone the JGS board meeting and the presentation to the morning of Saturday, June 13. Topic, Presenter, and meeting location and time will be provided soon.

Our Thursday, April 9 help night is cancelled. Our next help night is Thursday, May 14.

The March JGS genealogy day will be Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Tipton-Haynes at 2620 South Roan Street, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601. Our special tour is $6. Tipton-Haynes will also be holding their annual Civil War encampment this weekend. Please let us know if you will be able to join us.

For participants - bring an old photo that needs restoration (faded, torn, stained, etc.) to the presentation. We will pick three photos to scan, restore, and animate during the presentation. All of the AI tools we will discuss and demonstrate are free and online.
