This week has been such a meaningful, full-circle experience!

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to speak over Zoom with students in Dr. Karl Wendt’s counseling class at Harding University in Arkansas.

On Wednesday, Dr. Wendt brought his Ozark Christian College students to Journey Towards Hope Counseling, which is nestled inside Journey Through Slime. These students are studying counseling and preparing to become counselors one day.

I enjoyed sharing my journey and explaining how I incorporate creativity, sensory activities, and even slime into my counseling practice.

I began counseling with Dr. Wendt at Mount Hope Christian Counseling in May 2020 and continued there until October 2023. I gained so many valuable insights during those years, and much of what I learned continues to influence the work I do today. I’m incredibly grateful for Dr. Wendt’s investment in my journey and for the opportunity to encourage future counselors as they begin their own journeys.

Journey Towards Hope Counseling is accepting new clients at both of our locations—right in the heart of Main Street in beautiful Joplin, Missouri, and inside The Ledger in Bentonville, Arkansas.

To schedule an appointment, call 417-553-8000 or send me a message.

You don’t have to walk this journey alone. I want to give you hope while you’re on your journey.

I love this picture that Amelia’s friend Kylee caught the other day. I was driving when Amelia leaned over and gave me a hug. It was a really special morning—we were talking about how this was the last time I would be driving her to school now that she has a car and can drive herself. Ever since preschool, these morning drives together have been some of my favorite moments.

Life is full of seasons, and I’m stepping into a new one. Amelia got her driver’s license a couple of weeks ago (she’s 16 now) and started driving on her own. After 19 years of chauffeuring kids from one place to another, life feels a little different!

We invest so much time in our children—as we should—and then one day, they begin going places on their own and needing us in a different way. It’s exciting to watch, but it’s an adjustment, too.

I have more time alone now. Sometimes that quiet feels hard, and other times, it’s really enjoyable. I’m learning that I can miss parts of the previous season while still appreciating the one I’m in.

And there are plenty of blessings! Amelia can run errands for me, get herself where she needs to go, and if I need to stay a little longer at the office, I can. There’s also more room to slow down, enjoy things, and spend time seeking God and what He has for me next.

After almost two decades of a busy parenting routine, I’m learning to embrace a different pace. This season may not look exactly like I once imagined, but it is still beautiful. God can use both the enjoyable moments and the difficult ones to grow us, prepare us, and lead us where we need to be.

Whatever season you’re in, give yourself room to acknowledge the hard parts without overlooking the blessings. Both can exist at the same time. There is still joy to be found, purpose to discover, and something beautiful God can do right where you are.

If you need help navigating your season of life, I would love to help give you hope on your journey. I’m accepting new clients at both of my South Main locations in Joplin, Missouri, and Bentonville, Arkansas.

Last Thursday, I had the honor of attending the Carthage R-9 School District’s Back-to-School Lunch and Vendor Fair!

I served as a school counselor at Carthage Middle School/Carthage Intermediate Center from 2011 to 2020, so it was great to reconnect with so many friends I worked with and to see some of my former students. Carthage is an amazing school district, and I’m thankful I had the opportunity to be there.

Teachers and staff also had the chance to make slime with Journey Through Slime! I enjoyed sharing information about Journey Towards Hope Counseling and letting them know that I accept the district’s health insurance and am currently accepting new clients.

If you’re looking for a counselor, I would love to give you hope on your journey. Call 417-553-8000 for more information.

Yesterday at church, our minister Cody had these cards passed out and asked everyone to answer the five questions honestly. Then the cards were collected, mixed up, and passed back out so everyone was holding someone else’s card.

He read each question, and if the card you were holding had “yes” circled, you stood up.

The card I received had yes to all five.

Looking around the church and seeing people stand really got me thinking about how much people are going through that we may never know about.

It also made me think about myself. Yes, I’m a therapist and helping people is what I do, but what am I doing outside of my counseling office? What about the people I come across at a restaurant, while I’m shopping, or even my own neighbors? Am I taking the time to encourage them and let them know someone cares?

We really don’t know what someone else may be dealing with.

It also reminded me that I’m not alone, and neither are you.

I encourage you to look for opportunities to help and encourage the people around you. Sometimes just letting someone know you care can mean a lot.

And if you’re going through something and feel like you need someone to sit down and talk with, whether it’s something listed on this card or something completely different, give me a call.

I’m taking new clients at both of my South Main locations in Bentonville, Arkansas and Joplin, Missouri.

Five weeks ago, I was biking in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas when I noticed a gentleman dressed rather sharply while cutting a lawn at a beautiful home. I remember thinking that you don’t see someone dressed quite like that doing lawn care every day!

After my bike ride, I decided to go for a run. As I turned down that same street, the gentleman held out a cold bottle of water to me. I stopped, thanked him, and that’s when I met Steve with Walk Up Lawn Care.

We started talking right there on the sidewalk, and Steve began sharing some encouraging words with me. What started with a simple bottle of water turned into a conversation about life, faith, and our journeys.

Now, it seems like every time I’m in Bentonville biking or running, I run into Steve. He hands me a bottle of water, and we take a few minutes to stand there by the lawn and visit. I’ve learned so much from Steve through those conversations. He always has an encouraging word, a story to share, or something that makes me stop and think.

I’m so thankful for the people God places in our paths when we’re willing to notice them.

Life can get so busy. We’re always headed somewhere, trying to finish the next thing, checking something off the list, or moving on to what’s next. Sometimes we need to slow down long enough to visit with someone, listen to their story, and realize there may be something we can learn from them.

Steve has reminded me that some of the most meaningful connections can begin with something as simple as a bottle of water and a conversation on the side of the road.

You never know who God may place in your path. Sometimes the people we meet along the way are exactly the encouragement we need for our own journey.

If you need someone to walk alongside you, encourage you, and help you find hope on your journey, I’m currently accepting new clients at both of my South Main locations in Bentonville, Arkansas, and Joplin, Missouri.

Give me a call at 417-553-8000 or message me on Facebook to book your appointment.

Yesterday, my mom, my dad, and I visited one of my mom’s lifelong friends at the nursing home. They’ve been friends for nearly 48 years. Close to 48 years ago, my brother, Brad, my mom, and I were making chocolate chip cookies when her friend got a flat tire nearby and walked up to our house to use the phone. My mom gave her a ride home, and they’ve been friends ever since. My mom’s friend now has Alzheimer’s disease, and it seemed like the changes happened so quickly.

As I watched my mom interact with her lifelong friend, I was reminded how powerful kindness can be. She held her friend’s hand, spoke gently to her, and always found comforting words. No matter where the conversation went, my mom met her with patience, compassion, and love. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes our presence and the way we care for someone means more than having the right words.

I also realized that my mom has experienced a loss too. This is the friend she used to talk with almost every day and simply do life with. She still gets to do life with her friend, but it looks very different now. Alzheimer’s changes relationships, but it doesn’t have to change love. Love continues to show up, to hold a hand, to offer encouragement, and to remind someone they are valued.

It was also encouraging that she still recognized us and knew our names. Moments like that are such a gift.

If someone you love has Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, you may be grieving the changes while still caring deeply for them. That can be a difficult journey to walk. If you’re looking for someone to come alongside you as you process those emotions, I’d love to help.

Journey Towards Hope Counseling is now accepting new clients at both of my South Main locations in Joplin, Missouri, and Bentonville, Arkansas. Give me a call at 417-553-8000. I would love to help you find hope while you’re on your journey.

Did you know slime can benefit your mental health?

As a licensed professional counselor, I’ve seen firsthand how creative, hands-on activities can help people slow down, relax, and reconnect. Making and playing with slime can be a great way to reduce stress, encourage mindfulness, spark creativity, and create meaningful moments with the people you love.

Whether you’re a child, teenager, or adult, taking time to laugh, create, and put down your phone for a while can do wonders for your mental and emotional well-being.

If life has felt overwhelming lately, come make some slime, laugh together, and simply enjoy the moment. Sometimes caring for your mental health starts with something as simple as having fun.

No reservations are needed—just stop by!
