🦩Let Us Help Nourish You

You're spending a lot of time making sure your baby is fed and healthy.

Don't forget about yourself.

WIC and other community programs can help support you during your postpartum journey:

✅ Grocery assistance for all postpartum mothers for six months, and up to a full year for breastfeeding moms

✅ Postpartum Medicaid coverage for up to one year

✅ Medicaid programs may also offer maternal nutrition education, cooking classes, and grocery support

Breastfeeding takes energy. Recovery takes energy. Eating regularly and caring for yourself helps support both your health and your milk supply.

Remember, flamingos eventually regain their bright pink coloring as they recover and replenish their nutrients.

🩷 You are pouring so much into your baby. Don't forget to pour into yourself, too. Let's get your pink back. 🦩

Recommended intake:

🐟Pregnant and breastfeeding women: Aim for 2–3 servings (8–12 ounces or 225–340 g) of low-mercury fish each week.

🐟 Children: Offer 1–2 servings per week, with portion sizes appropriate for the child's age (smaller portions for younger children).

Tips:

🐟 Choose canned fish with lower sodium when possible.

🐟 Fish packed in water is a good everyday option; fish packed in olive oil can also be nutritious.

🐟 Canned fish and sardines with edible bones are excellent sources of calcium, which is important for both mothers and growing children.

🐟 Ensure children receive fish that is mashed or flaked into small pieces to reduce choking risk.

👀🍴Including low-mercury canned fish as part of a varied diet can support healthy pregnancy, maternal recovery, breastfeeding, and early childhood growth and development. For a canned fish recipe, and even more recipes on how to use your canned fish benefits, click on the link below. 🍔🐟📲

🦩Flamingo Parenting

Did you know flamingos lose their bright pink color after becoming parents?

The hormone prolactin helps flamingos produce milk for their young, using nutrients from their own bodies to nourish their babies. The same hormone helps mothers produce breastmilk, and just like colostrum, flamingo milk is packed with immune-supporting benefits.

For a time, flamingos look a little less like themselves (less pink) because they're giving so much to their young.

Parenthood can feel that way, too.

👑You're learning a new routine, caring for a new life, and adapting to a whole new world. Give yourself grace. Be patient with yourself and your baby.

🩷 You will get your pink back, too.
