If healing your nervous system is your goal this year, start with these 5 things:

1. Stop forcing calm
Your body does not regulate through pressure. It regulates through safety. Instead of telling yourself to relax, ask what would help your body feel supported right now.
2. Lengthen your exhale
Longer exhales send a signal of safety to the nervous system. Even a few slow breaths can help your body begin to soften.
3. Spend more time in nature
Natural light, open space, fresh air, and quiet help your system move out of constant alert mode.
4. Let your body feel instead of pushing everything down
Emotions do not disappear because we ignore them. Often, they stay in the body until there is enough safety to let them move.
5. Practice breathwork consistently
Breathwork helps the nervous system relearn safety through the body, not just the mind.

You do not have to change everything at once.

Start with one small signal of safety. Then repeat it.

That is how the nervous system begins to trust again.

30 uncomfortable things you should do alone to reset your body

1. Wake up without checking your phone
2. Go for a walk in silence
3. Sit outside for 15 minutes without distractions
4. Watch the sunrise
5. Watch the sunset
6. Drink water before caffeine
7. Eat a meal without scrolling
8. Take a slow walk after dinner
9. Spend an hour away from screens
10. Practice deep breathing for 10 minutes
11. Stretch your body when you wake up
12. Take a cold shower
13. Go to bed earlier than usual
14. Rest when you’re tired instead of pushing through
15. Spend time in nature
16. Journal what your body is feeling
17. Leave your phone in another room
18. Read a book instead of watching TV
19. Sit quietly with your thoughts
20. Eat slowly and mindfully
21. Take a day off from social media
22. Listen to calming music without multitasking
23. Do gentle movement even when you don’t feel like it
24. Spend time near water
25. Say no to something that drains your energy

Some of the things that changed my health the most were not complicated.

They were small, quiet things I started doing consistently.

Spending more time outside

Learning how to breathe deeply again

Taking stress seriously instead of pushing through it

Slowing down my mornings

Getting more sunlight

Drinking more water

Walking without needing it to “count” as exercise

Resting before I completely burned out

Saying no without overexplaining

Spending less time around constant noise

Letting my body feel instead of always staying busy

Practicing breathwork regularly

Creating moments of stillness

Choosing peace over urgency

Listening to my body when it asked for support

None of these were dramatic.

But together, they changed how safe I felt in my body.

And when the body feels safer, everything begins to shift.

Sometimes anxiety doesn’t show up as a racing heart or a panic attack.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Feeling exhausted no matter how much you sleep
• Tension headaches that keep coming back
• Tight shoulders and a clenched jaw
• Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
• Feeling constantly “on” even when nothing is wrong
