If healing your nervous system is your goal this year, start with these 5 things:
1. Stop forcing calm
Your body does not regulate through pressure. It regulates through safety. Instead of telling yourself to relax, ask what would help your body feel supported right now.
2. Lengthen your exhale
Longer exhales send a signal of safety to the nervous system. Even a few slow breaths can help your body begin to soften.
3. Spend more time in nature
Natural light, open space, fresh air, and quiet help your system move out of constant alert mode.
4. Let your body feel instead of pushing everything down
Emotions do not disappear because we ignore them. Often, they stay in the body until there is enough safety to let them move.
5. Practice breathwork consistently
Breathwork helps the nervous system relearn safety through the body, not just the mind.
You do not have to change everything at once.
Start with one small signal of safety. Then repeat it.
That is how the nervous system begins to trust again.
