There’s something about the ocean that meets you exactly where you are. On our latest huakaʻi, our ʻohana spent the morning out on the water with these incredible dolphins, a reminder that healing happens in connection, in presence, and in moments of pure joy.

Recovery isn’t just the work we do indoors. It’s learning to be part of something bigger than yourself again. 🐬

🌊From Sea to Summit: A Journey to Recovery🌄

This week, our clients at The Ohana had an experience that can only be described as transformative. One client called it “life-changing,” while another found it to be a “deeply spiritual” journey. Starting at the stunning Kua Bay, where they swam in the majestic blue waters, our group then traveled over 13,000 feet above sea level to the sacred peak of Mauna Kea.

Mauna Kea, or Poliahu, holds profound significance in Hawaiian culture. Named after the ice goddess in Hawaiian mythology, this mountain is a place of spiritual connection and awe. Our clients were blessed with the opportunity to witness the magical sunset from the summit, gaze at the stars, and even experience the Perseid meteor shower—all while connecting with one another, free from the bonds of drugs and alcohol.

At The Ohana, we believe in integrative approaches to healing, including adventure therapy. These once-in-a-lifetime experiences allow our clients to connect with nature, find inner peace, and build lasting bonds with one another—all in the spirit of fun and recovery.

🌊 Today at The Ohana, our clients became “Aquanauts”! 🚤As part of our weekly Huaka’i (Adventure Therapy), we embarked on a 100ft underwater journey and experienced the ocean from the view of a submarine. 🌟 🌊 On this exciting Kona submarine tour, we dove deep below the cobalt waters off the Kona coast, exploring an entire world of fish and marine creatures just below the surface. We saw remnants of shipwrecks, vibrant fish, and stunning coral reefs. 🐠🌺
As the submarine descended towards the colorful reef, we peered through the portholes at fish swimming inches from our windows, experiencing a sense of peace and calm in this underwater world. 🌊🪸 This incredible journey allowed us to explore the underwater world without even getting our hair wet! And if you’re very lucky, there’s even the chance to spot a passing shark. 🦈
As part of our adventure therapy program, we go on weekly excursions throughout The Big Island of Hawaii. We believe in the power of nature and having fun in recovery. If you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right! 🌴💚
