8/29/26 we welcomed Zippy to our family. He was rescued by a friend's friend & son, in the rain, at dusk, in the road, at the busiest intersection of Kuakini & Palani. Cyndi Jackson took him in and texted me that she had our cat 😂. Kanoa & I went over, and well, we came home with a new buddy. Kanoa figured out the name for him. He's Makamaka's Happy Gotcha Day present (I stole Maka from the Firestone parking lot back in August 2023 😉; it was me or the Original Thai lady. I had the gear 😆). They've been having the best time chasing & romping with each other. Socks is still like 🙄, whatever mom. And Koko is like 😳, wtf is that thing? Hiss hiss! Lychee is a fan & plays with him. Mele is uncertain and more likely to bite his face off. I hope he lives a long & happy life at the Plavi Pet Palace. Meow 💖😻🐈‍⬛

Before I can introduce a new family member, I feel like I have to finally admit that we lost Nalu in June this year (2026). He was 3 months when we got him & he was with us for 12 years 2 months. I made him a vet appointment & we had to wait 3 weeks. By the time we took him in, we knew it wouldn't be for blood work but for assistance over the rainbow bridge. It was a hard hit, especially after losing Kaya in July 2025. Sigh. 😢

We loved Nalu. He challenged me on so many levels around my capacity to love & receive love. Our lessons weren't complete, of that I'm certain.

And fate has a funny way of threading the stories and running with themes, so I trust . . .

Exploring a few art books while working thru a bunch of different things -- the books are The Ugly Sketchbook by Tawnie Terry, an artist I follow here on IG and Syllabus by Lynda Barry which I found thru another IG artist that was sharing the books she was reading.

Both of these ooze with permission to create without analyzing. They are reminders of the truth of our humanness - that we are messy creatures who learn thru experience or experiment.

My wisdom garnered from my initiation into these two worlds where lines are the gateway:

"Books, writing, images, art - they all teach us compassion for our human condition. No one is exempt from having their shadows laid bare before them, yet only some are brave enough to wade within, to listen, master, and reap the wisdom of this space. The wisdom life has to offer comes from the full range of the experience of life. Our limitations lie in the capacity of our consciousness to experience multiple realities at once and just be with the realization that nothing is one dimensional, even a line." -Andara
