A mother elephant rushed onto a highway after thinking someone had taken her baby in a truck.
Drivers said she appeared out of nowhere, charging at cars, blocking the road, and chasing anything that looked like it might be carrying something away. For a moment, people thought she had become a threat to everyone nearby, but wildlife officials soon realized her panic had a reason. Her calf was missing.
The mother had likely seen animals being moved before, so when her baby disappeared, she seemed to believe someone had taken it. She started chasing vehicles on the highway, checking every passing car as if her calf might be inside. But it turned out to be a heartbreaking misunderstanding.
The calf had not been taken. It had wandered almost a mile away, became trapped, and collapsed from heat exhaustion before it could find its way back.
Wildlife officials found the baby in time, cooled it down, gave it water, and helped it stand again.
When they finally reunited the calf with its mother, the elephant that had been attacking cars instantly became calm. She was not trying to harm anyone. She thought she was chasing the people who stole her baby.
