We care about the health and well-being of not just the folks who come through our doors but also of our employees here at Helping Hands Wellness Center. That’s why we consulted with occupational therapist Joel Phillips, MS, OTR/L, CLT for an ergonomic assessment and implementation in our office.

He evaluated our current set up to determine how our work spaces could be improved to make them smarter and more conducive for comfort, function, and productivity. He then implemented changes like properly setting up ergonomic chairs for proper posture, which helps reduce wear and tear on the body and ultimately improves the productivity and comfort of our employees.

πŸͺ‘ It’s been a few months since we made those changes, and our backs are so grateful for your expertise, Joel! Thank you!

πŸ“žπŸ“ˆ CALLING ALL FINANCIAL LEADERS: HELP US MAKE AN IMPACT!

What if your financial expertise could help protect access to healthcare for people who need it most?

At Helping Hands Wellness Center, we believe access to healthcare should not be determined by someone's ability to pay. As our community and country face growing uncertainty about the future of healthcare access, our mission has never been more timely or more important.

We are seeking a Board Treasurer to join a dedicated team of community leaders who believe in making a difference.

This is an opportunity to bring your financial acumen, strategic thinking, and community connections to an organization working to make healthcare more accessible for our neighbors.

πŸ«±πŸ½β€πŸ«²πŸΌ What would you bring to the table?
οΉ’Financial insight to support responsible stewardship and organizational sustainability.
οΉ’Partnership with the Executive Director on budgeting, financial reporting, and long-term financial health.
οΉ’An eye for good governance, including thoughtful review of financial policies and practices.
οΉ’A willingness to help open doors to donors, funders, and community partnerships that can strengthen our mission.

⭐️ What can you expect?
οΉ’Monthly virtual board meetings (approximately one hour).
οΉ’Quarterly in-person board meetings.
οΉ’Opportunities to participate in strategic planning and community engagement.
οΉ’The opportunity to serve alongside passionate, accomplished leaders who care deeply about our community.

This is a volunteer leadership position; an opportunity to give your expertise where it can make a meaningful difference. If you have a background in accounting, finance, banking, financial management, or a related field, and you want your skills to serve a greater purpose, I would love to connect with you.

Interested or know someone who would be a great fit? Please reach out via LinkedIn or email [email protected] .

Sometimes leadership is about more than what we build in our own careers. It's about what we help make possible for others. Let's make healthcare access possible together. πŸ’™πŸ©Ί

Awareness is important, but action saves lives. πŸ©·πŸŽ—οΈ
Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer for women, and it can affect both men and women.

Early detection is key. If you have concerns about any abnormalities in your breasts or under your arms, be sure to see a provider as soon as possible.

πŸ‘‹πŸΎ Say hey to Gabriella!
Gabriella is a student volunteer at Helping Hands Wellness Center completing an externship from Ross Medical Education Center . πŸ’™πŸ©Ί

When asked what her favorite thing is about being at Helping Hands, she said, β€œI love that the focus here is not on the business, but we actually connect with our patients. Folks should know that here at Helping Hands they truly do abide by their mission statement; they do their best every day to make sure your needs come first as a patient.β€œ

Once Gabriella finishes her externship with us, she is looking forward to diving headfirst into her medical assisting career and really planting her feet in the community. We know wherever she lands will be lucky to have her on their staff!

πŸ©·πŸ‘£πŸ©΅ October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

In the United States, 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage and 1 in 175 end in stillbirth. In Kalamazoo, we have the lowest overall infant mortality rate in the state (4.5 deaths/1,000 births vs 6.3 in the state of Michigan overall). However, huge racial disparities still exist. Black women are still 2x more likely to experience a stillbirth.

If you have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss and are in need of emotional support, Helping Hands Wellness Center provides no cost mental health support to qualified clients.

πŸ“ Wellness Wednesday Tip:

One of the easiest ways to spot a pattern in your health is by tracking.

Write down your symptoms that are concerning you. Keep track of any changes you’re noticing, and bring your notes with you to your appointment. Trends in your diet, mood, sleep, and energy levels can sometimes be clues to finding ways of improving your well-being.
