Teresa grew up finding joy in simple moments on her family’s farm, where her lifelong love of animals began. The Life Story of Marie Tavernit

Today we celebrate the life of Marie Tavernit, a woman who lived life with grit, humor, and a fiercely protective love for her family. Growing up in the Detroit projects, she learned early that joy came from simple things—like the excitement of finding an orange in her Christmas stocking. Those lessons shaped her into a grateful, humble woman who loved deeply and honestly. Marie raised her three children with patience, laughter, and plenty of butter filled meals they still tease her about. She worked hard, built a life she was proud of, and shared an unbreakable bond with her sister Bev—especially during their beloved “roaming” adventures with no destination in mind.

She adored her grandchildren, cherished her pets, and had a sweet tooth that made Halloween one of her favorite times of year. Even later in life, she kept everyone smiling as she zipped around Story Point with her walker faster than the staff could keep up.
Marie will be remembered for her loyalty, her honesty and the way she showed love through presence, protection, and truth. Her family carries her memory forward in every story, every tradition, and every moment of kindness inspired by her example.
