We hope that everyone is safe as the wildfires grow. Even if you are not in an evacuation zone, the smoke from the fires can be very dangerous for us and our animals.
While we cannot control the smoke, there are things we can do to try and reduce the damage.
🔥 Do not ride or exercise your horse in heavy smoke conditions.
🔥 Wetting down paddocks and hay to keep the dust down and reduce other respiratory irritants.
🔥 Keep plenty of fresh water available. You can also offer mashes of soaked hay pellets and electrolytes. This will encourage them to drink and keep the airway moist.
🔥 Monitor closely. Signs of respiratory irritation include coughing, movement of the abdomen during each breath and flared nostrils. If your horse is having trouble breathing, please let us know immediately.
