Wondering about the difference between a Section 504 Plan and an IEP? Both are legal documents designed to support students with disabilities, provide services at no cost to families, and help ensure equal access to education. However, a 504 Plan focuses on ensuring access to learning, while an IEP provides specialized instruction and services for students who meet specific eligibility criteria. Understanding these similarities and differences can help families advocate for the support that best meets their child's needs.

We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate ARNP-PMHNP to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients across diverse populations.
This role is supported through a federal rural healthcare workforce initiative funded by CMS/HHS, designed to expand access to behavioral health services in underserved areas. Because of this support, the position includes recruitment incentives of up to $120,000 and requires a five‑year, full‑time, in‑person commitment to newly serving rural Iowa. This long‑term investment ensures continuity of care for the communities we serve and provides stability and growth for the provider joining our team. 💜

For some neurodivergent kids, a successful school day might include:

🎧 Noise-canceling headphones or a quieter space
🧍 Movement breaks or opportunities to move while learning
📋 Visual schedules and clear expectations
⏳ Extra processing time before answering or transitioning
✏️ Different ways to demonstrate what they know
🧸 Sensory tools or objects that help with regulation
💬 A trusted adult who understands how they communicate and cope

These supports aren’t about giving a child an unfair advantage. They’re about giving each child what they need to access learning and participate in a way that works for their brain.

And sometimes, what looks like “defiance,” “inattention,” or “not trying” may actually be a child communicating that something is too overwhelming, unpredictable, difficult, or exhausting.

As a new school year begins, let’s focus less on making kids fit the mold—and more on creating environments where different kinds of brains can thrive!
