✨ Resident Spotlight ✨

Everyone meet one of our lovely chiefs and avid runner, Dr. Kate Topalis PGY-3!

🏡 Hometown: Simsbury, CT
🏫 Undergrad: Boston University (go…terriers?)
🏥 Med school: University of Connecticut
💃 Hobbies: running, baking, reading (thrillers, nonfiction, adventure, GIVE EM TO ME), hiking, exploring cities, being outside!
🩺 Career interests: environmental health and climate change, health policy, diabetes management, primary care!!!
💙 Why Jeff?: I felt immediately at home here on my interview day. Residents were not at Jeff simply to care for medically and socially complex patients — an incredibly rewarding task in and of itself — but also to continue tackling whatever tangential passions that led them to medicine in the first place. Who knew they would actually let me study fracking in residency! I love being surrounded by people that constantly inspire me to be a better physician, teacher, and advocate, and that allow me to push the limits on what it means to be a primary care provider.

We love celebrating our OBGYN colleagues birthdays with them 💙👶🏻

🏥 Med school: Ohio State
💃 Hobbies: cooking, playing tennis, hanging out with my co-residents, going to breweries, watching Notre Dame sports 🏀 🏈
🩺 Career interests: good old fashioned primary care, prenatal care, fertility awareness based methods
💙 Why Jeff?: Like everyone, I LOVED the vibe of the people I would be working with. They are indeed the best!
I knew this program would provide a comprehensive education and was very well respected at our medical center. We also have strong experiences in prenatal care and OB which was important to me, and we love working with our OB/GYN colleagues! Lastly all the opportunities to work at community sites in the great city of Philadelphia.

Once a month for grand rounds the seniors on service present a Morbidity and Mortality lecture at the end of their service block. This serves as an opportunity for residents to identify areas for improvement and discuss difficult cases 💡
