Benilde Hall Accommodations and Amenities

The men in the transitional living program are housed in a converted hospital. Program Cost: Sliding scale.

Our Mission: To empower individuals to lead their lives confidently by fostering sustained recovery, stable housing, economic self-sufficiency, and improved mental and physical well-being. Rooms are arranged dorm-style and are shared between residents. The facility also includes a kitchen, dining hall, therapy rooms, a lecture hall, and office spaces. Clients get three meals a day prepared by an o

n-site chef, though clients are required to help participate in meal clean-up. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated. The permanent housing program is offered through Matt Talbot apartments. Located across the street from the main facility, the building offers furnished units. Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside of the building. Rules and Regulations

The transitional living program offers up to two years of care, though the duration of stay can range anywhere from 30 to 730 days. Before admission, residents undergo a prescreen to determine eligibility. For those with mental health issues, licensed counselors are available for dual diagnosis support. In addition, they must attend a range of therapy sessions, and educational groups and also are required to obtain employment. Therapy includes weekly individual and group therapy sessions. As clients stay in the home for longer, their required number of meetings and therapy sessions per week goes down while the number of hours of community service per week increases. Aftercare is offered to those that successfully complete the residential program. Independent living with supportive options is included in aftercare. The Hall House provides a safe place for clients to continue their recovery. The Hall House has individual rooms and a kitchen maintained by the clients. Support is provided as needed per a person center program. The permanent housing program is offered to men who have successfully completed transitional living. They can move in as long as they can pay rent and stay sober. There is a strict zero-tolerance policy for substances during either phase of treatment. Anyone who is found relapsing is subject to being evicted from the program. Extras

Case management is offered and may include employment counseling, independent living skills, recreational activities, legal advocacy and referrals, spirituality, financial counseling, family counseling, and referrals to community self-help groups. A mental health coordinator helps connect clients with programs to support their mental health needs during and after treatment. This service is designed to aid in the referral process to build a stronger long-term recovery. In Summary

Overall, the Benilde Hall Program offers supportive transitional and permanent living to those seeking a safe sober environment regardless of income. Through this structured program, clients attend, DBT, Anger Management, nutrition, parenting, life skills, Smart Recovery, 12-step meetings, community service, and therapy and are held to a high level of accountability. This is a great long-term program for men who are serious about their sobriety. Reach Benilde Hall Program by phone at (816) 842-5836.

Not everyone without a driver's license is in the same situation.

Some Benilde Hall clients just need to renew an expired license, but many have never had the chance to get one. Some were incarcerated before they could. Others are working through requirements like court mandated alcohol and substance abuse training, SR-22 insurance, ignition interlock devices, and other steps to regain driving privileges.

Recently, Case Manager Jenna helped someone begin the process of reinstating his CDL. "Watching the relief on his face was a reminder that a license is so much more than a piece of plastic, its access to work, stability, independence, and opportunity."

Sometimes, changing a life starts with helping someone get behind the wheel legally.

"Getting to watch how excited these tough guys become when they get their license back, and earning back responsibility, makes the tough days' worth wild. It's like watching their inner little boy heal and start to grow piece by piece and it's really cool. Definitely like a proud adopt-a-mom moment!" Jenna Caruso- Case Manager and Advocate.

Healing isn't about becoming someone else; it's about learning the skills to navigate life with greater awareness, resilience, and hope. 💚

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps people build practical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and healthy relationships. These tools support lasting recovery by empowering individuals to face challenges with confidence and compassion.

At Benilde Hall, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and rediscover their purpose. Recovery is a journey, and every step forward is worth celebrating.

Meet Tony! Here at Benilde Hall, he is more than a case manager; he is a friend, advocate and a gardener!
"For the past two years, I've had the privilege of caring for our unit's vegetable garden after noticing the plots had been left bare for over a year. I named it The Serenity Garden because I hoped it would become more than just a place to grow food, I wanted it to be a place where people could find peace, purpose, and healing.

Since then, it's been incredible to watch what a simple garden can do. Working alongside our clients has proven to be both therapeutic and deeply meaningful. Many have shared that tending the garden reminds them of helping their parents or grandparents when they were children, bringing back memories they hadn't thought about in years.
One of my favorite things is watching even the toughest men covered in tattoos and carrying heavy stories: carefully plant seedlings, nurture them, and take pride in the harvest. Seeing clients enjoy the tomatoes (yes, technically they're fruits 🍅), collard greens, kale, and other vegetables they've grown with their own hands is a reminder that growth happens in more ways than one.
As for me, nothing beats sitting down to a plate of collard greens with onions, sautéed kale, and fried green tomatoes, all fresh from the Serenity Garden." 🌱
They say gardening grows more than plants we couldn't agree more.

Homelessness doesn't discriminate: but the reality is that, according to the AIBM, men make up 60% of the homeless population and are also far more likely to be living unsheltered.

Behind every statistic is a human being with a story, struggles, dreams, and a life that matters. Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to rebuild. Compassion starts with seeing people, not just numbers. 🤍
