Nothing better than a good challenge to wrap up the summer! Decided to take on the intermediate distance this year for gravel worlds triathlon. Omg the hills were insane. I was able to draft with a good group of guys for almost 12 miles before I got dropped on a roller! The run was awful. the combination of freshly mowed, slippery grass and the heat mixed with uneven surface was not great. I never got my legs back after the bike. This is hasn’t happened in a while so maybe when too hard on the bike. Happy to have such great gravel roads in our backyard! .

Finally a chance to race the full distances of both the Olympic and sprint races. Last year’s cancellation of the sprint left me hungry. I hadn’t been back since 2022 when the sprint also was turned into a super sprint. This year fed my fire to improve. It is seriously so inspiring to see so many fast ladies. I know I have a lot of work to do to keep improving but I am proud of how much I have showed up and continuing to work towards what I enjoy. One of the booths asked why I race. I wrote, “to show my boys that their mom is strong.” Often I think about how many moms give up everything once they have kids. I don’t believe that’s the way to happiness. Kids need to see their moms chasing goals too and continuing to improve. Keep going! Keep improving! Keep pushing on. Your body is capable of way more than you think. .

Last weekend, the husband and I participated in the Crofton Dam race! If you want a challenge, this is your race! It’s unique, fun and has great food at the finish! You kayak 1.5 miles, run a 5k around a camp ground and then finish with a 13 mile bike into town with 900 feet of elevation gain! Last year, Eric beat me at the end when he had a little bit of steam left and was able to push through the final sprints on the bike. This year, he technically beat me with overall time but I had him beat on the run and bike 🤣. Probably wouldn’t have pushed so hard in the heat if I wasn’t trying to beat him 🤣😂. Finish line included a giant Bloody Mary!

Not every race is going to be my race. Stats wise, I did good for my age group but history wise, my speed wasn’t there. I woke up to a flat tire. I should have just changed it. I was nervous as it was my first time changing my Tri bike tire and with no race support, I didn’t want to get the tire off and realize I was in trouble. My bike struggled to get in between big and small gears. Lesson learned, need to get it in the shop for a tune up. The run was hot and humid. Now onward to the crofton race with the hubby next weekend for back to back racing weekend number 3.

Omaha Ironman 70.3 ✅. I am so grateful for a body that kept going even when the hills never stopped on the bike. I dealt with my chain dropping twice which was a first for me during a race. Easy fix though so I’ll take it. We hit mile 41 on the bike and I wasn’t sure I could make it up! The run was HOT. There really wasn’t any shade. My neuroma in my foot started acting up and the self talk had to start immediately. “forward is a pace. Must keep going! I can do hard things.” I knew at that point that I couldn’t push my pace too hard to prevent the burnout. Having my boys and husband there cheering me on was the best! I wanted to make them proud! All in all, I would probably suffer again through the hills 🤣.

Ready to race tomorrow! Omaha hills here I come! Goal: positive vibes the whole time.

Day number 2 was filled with 2 races! Morning was the standard duathlon and afternoon was the aquathon! The standard du killed me! Made me realize I need to practice more race pace 10k as my threshold runs are not normally longer than 40 mins at the moment. The thing I love about multisport is there’s always something to improve! Once I am all recovered, I can’t wait to get back out there and implement different training plans. Finished out with 3rd in age group for standard du and 2nd in age group for aquathon. .

First race of the season! Started off with my first ever aquabike at the multisport festival! Talk about cold water! It was a lovely 59 with air temp of 56 when we started.

Does cold water make you swim faster or slower?
