There’s something incredibly special about watching first-time parents discover just how capable they really are.
This sweet mama’s labor began slowly around midnight with mild contractions and the start of losing her mucus plug. We encouraged her to rest as much as possible, knowing that conserving her energy in those early hours would serve her well later. By late afternoon, Lexi joined them at the hospital, where they had settled into a beautiful rhythm together.
One thing that stood out from the very beginning was how involved her husband was. Every contraction brought hip squeezes, and we tag-teamed our way through labor together. They had thoughtfully prepared for this day, and it showed. As labor intensified, they leaned into every tool they had learned instead of letting fear take over.
And can we talk about their playlists?
They started with “Dance It Out” while excitement filled the room. As contractions became more intense, they switched to a chill playlist. Then, as transition approached and every ounce of strength was being poured into bringing their baby earthside, they turned on worship music.
Standing in the shower, letting the hot water wash over her, “Goodness of God” began to play.
During that first contraction of the song, I noticed something had changed. The vocalizations she’d been making through each wave suddenly stopped. Instead, tears quietly rolled down her face.
