Is Your Child Complaining of Ear Pain After Swimming? It Could Be Swimmer's Ear!👂

Swimmer's ear happens when water gets trapped in the ear canal, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. Using cotton swabs or putting objects in the ear can also damage the ear canal and increase the risk of infection.

Watch for signs like:
💥 Ear pain, especially when the ear is touched
👂 Itching inside the ear
💧 Drainage from the ear
🔊 Muffled hearing

😬 Found a tick on your child? Don't panic.

Ticks are common this time of year, but removing them the right way matters.

✔️ Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick close to the skin and pull straight out with steady pressure. Avoid twisting, crushing, or using home remedies like petroleum jelly, nail polish, or a lit match.

After removal:

🧼 Wash the area with soap and water.
🩹 Apply antibiotic ointment if recommended by your provider.
📷 Save the tick in a sealed bag or container in case your child's provider needs to identify it.

Over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for:

• A new rash (especially a bull's-eye or spreading red rash)
• Fever 🤒
• Flu-like symptoms

If the tick was attached for more than 24 hours, appears swollen, or you're unsure how long it was attached, it's a good idea to contact your child's healthcare provider.

The best prevention? ✅ Daily tick checks after playing outside, especially around wooded areas, tall grass, or parks.

☀️What to look for when choosing sunscreen for your child?

When looking at sunscreen labels - make sure they include:

🔸SPF (sun protective factor) of 30 or higher
🔸A broad-spectrum sunscreen (protects against UVA & UVB)
🔸Mineral based sunscreen with zine oxide or titanium dioxide

Why are these important?

🔹SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays. Broad spectrum ensures your child is protected from both skin-burning UVB rays and skin-aging UVA rays.

🔹Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sit on the skin's surface like a shield and reflect UV rays, making them gentle on sensitive skin and less likely to cause irritation.
