I had the opportunity to speak today at the MO Summit on Aging on my grant with Clay County Senior Services for the OT led Home Hazard Removal Program (HARP), emphasizing the need for OTs in community health and fall prevention programs, the flexibility and willingness to adapt needed in community programs, and the importance for adults to plan for their aging. 🏠

Look at this smile! 😁 Now THAT’S what independence looks like!

This year, Kim decided it was too soon to give up the keys. 🚘

She’s an active woman who works part-time and loves her roles as wife, mom, and grandma. She’s planning to retire next year, but retirement doesn’t mean slowing down—and she wasn’t ready to let driving limit what comes next.

So, she reached out to Limitless Driving Solutions to explore driving rehabilitation with Sure Grip Hand Controls. It was a little anxiety-provoking at first, but Kim showed up determined, worked hard, and made steady progress until she was driving independently with her new equipment. There were lots of smiles and laughter throughout the process, we really had a great time together! ❤️

Today, she picked up her car, newly modified by United Access Lenexa, and that smile says it all!

✨ New chapter. New wheels. Same unstoppable Kim. ✨

Because sometimes, it’s not about giving up the keys. It’s about finding a new way to keep moving forward.

Here’s to independence, new possibilities, and all the places life will take you next, Kim! 💙🚗

Thank you to the incredible Disa Rice of Platte County Community Center North for inviting Limitless Driving Solutions to educate her members on “Safe Driving as We Age” She is so full of energy and positivity. We had a great conversation on normal changes with aging, adaptive devices that can help safety, getting driving assessed, and alternative transportation planning 🚗🛞🚘

I was thrilled to have my submission selected for the Kansas Occupational Therapy Association annual conference this year—and even more excited to host a roundtable discussion on driving and community mobility. I’ve looked forward to this day for months!

It was WONDERFUL to educate, connect, and engage in meaningful conversations with fellow OTs about the vital role we can play in driving safety and community mobility.

Regardless of setting or specialty, OTs who work with adults are uniquely positioned to ask, assess, monitor, educate, and refer when it comes to driving. We’re big-picture thinkers who understand the fit between a person’s abilities, the demands of an activity, and the environment—and that perspective is essential when addressing the safety of one of the most complex and demanding activities we do every day: driving.

And when driving is no longer the safest option, our role doesn’t stop there. We can help clients explore and practice alternative transportation and ways to access the people, places, and resources that matter most—supporting continued autonomy, participation, and independence.

Driving is an occupation. Community mobility is an occupation. OTs have an important role in both. 🚗💨

Robin is back to life in the fast lane! 🏁🚙💨

Yesterday, after 1.5 years being unable to drive, she picked up her brand new car 🤩with Sure Grip Hand Controls installed by MobilityWorks Lee’s Summit.

Robin, a 1st grade teacher in KCMO, made an excellent student. She had the motivation, bravery, and focus to quickly pick up the new skills of driving again in a new way, with her hands. 🤛🛞

She gave me a good report card too, and it meant so much:
“I can’t thank you enough for your guidance through this entire process. From the driver evaluation and training to helping me get adaptive equipment installed in my new car, your support has meant the world to me. I appreciate you so much! Thanks to you and your service, I was able to drive independently for the first time in over a year and a half. For this, I truly love you!”

During our time together in Limitless Driving Solutions Robin gained her freedom and I gained a friend ❤️
